Two persons including a child died when a Tata Sumo and a motorbike collided with each other in Mahottari on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as bike rider Sanjit Mandal (22) of Nigaul, Gaushala Municipality-2 and pillion rider Dhiraj Mandal (12) of Samsi Rural Municipality-1, Parsa.

According to Inspector Bishnu Prasad Basyal of the Area Police Office, Gaushala, the Tata Sumo (Province-2-02-001 Cha 841) heading towards Jaleshwor from Gaushala collided head-on with the "on test" bike at Aurahi Municipality-4 along the Gaushala-Samsi road section yesterday.

Critically injured in the incident, the duo were taken to the District Hospital in Jaleshwor but doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Police said that they have impounded the jeep and arrested its driver for investigation.
