BFIN and PHDCCI host high-level symposium on economic reforms and regional cooperation in Nepal

The Banking, Finance and Insurance Institute of Nepal (BFIN), in collaboration with the India-Nepal Centre of PHDCCI, hosted a high-level symposium titled “An Aspiring Nepal: How to Benefit from Economic Reforms?” on May 10, 2025, at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu.

The event brought together a distinguished group of policymakers, economists, and industry leaders from both Nepal and India to deliberate on Nepal’s ongoing economic reform agenda and the prospects for enhanced regional economic cooperation.

Sanjeev Sanyal, Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of India, delivered the keynote address, offering valuable insights drawn from India’s own reform journey. Other key speakers included Binod Atreya (BFIN), Binod Chaudhary (CNI), Prakash Kumar Shrestha (NPC), and Prasanna Shrivastava (Embassy of India).

A focused panel discussion led by Atul K. Thakur (PHDCCI) explored critical themes such as policy innovation, financial sector reforms, and opportunities for regional growth. Panelists featured representatives from FNCCI, NRB, CBFIN, Nepal SBI Bank, and Visa Inc.

The symposium emphasized that economic reforms are vital for Nepal’s sustainable growth, job creation, and long-term development. Stronger collaboration between India and Nepal was highlighted as a key enabler of more effective reform outcomes. Speakers also underscored the need for inclusive and actionable strategies to ensure the success of Nepal’s reform efforts.
