Trump to host Armenia-Azerbaijan peace talks at White House

US President Donald Trump will host the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan for peace talks at the White House on Friday, aiming to advance a possible agreement, a US official confirmed.

The decades-long conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh escalated in 2023 when Azerbaijan regained control of the region, prompting most ethnic Armenians to flee. Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of erasing Armenian heritage there, a case now before the International Court of Justice. Baku denies the claims, saying it ensures the safety of all residents, according to Al Jazeera.

The upcoming meeting follows recent, inconclusive talks in Abu Dhabi and a draft peace deal agreed in March.
