The Trump administration plans a $175bn “Golden Dome” missile defense system with layered interceptors, radars, and lasers, including a new missile field in the Midwest alongside existing sites in California and Alaska, Al Jazeera reported.
Congress has approved $25bn so far, with $45.3bn requested for 2026, though costs remain uncertain. Lockheed Martin leads the project, highlighting its speed and accuracy against aerial threats.
Modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, the system aims to protect the US from missiles and drone swarms. Despite initial funding, a shortfall remains, with Trump suggesting Canada could contribute $61bn, according to Al Jazeera.
Notably, SpaceX and Palantir were absent from recent contract discussions.
