IT company Meta has contacted the Secretariat of the Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, hours after the government decided to ban Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram among 26 social media platforms.
Ministry Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Gajendra Thakur informed that Meta has contacted Minister Gurung's personal assistant Shaligram Parajuli through email.
Thakur said that Meta has asked for the necessary documents for registration in Nepal from its office in Singapore.
The Meta, however, has not come into contact through government officials.
Earlier, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had decided to shut down 26 social media platforms in Nepal in accordance with the Supreme Court order and the decision of the Council of Ministers.
