Nepal Army mobilized in curfew-imposed areas including New Baneshwor

In the wake of Gen Z demonstration unleashing anarchy, the Nepal Army has been mobilized in the curfew-imposed areas including New Baneshwor of Kathmandu.

The Nepal Army personnel were mobilized after the Kathmandu administration-imposed curfew in a bid to tame the protest and the local security committee requested for additional support.

Spokesperson of the Nepal Army, Rajaram Basnet, informed that a contingent of Nepal Army was mobilized in the curfew-clamped areas upon the request of the local security committee in view of an anarchic demonstration that tried to enter the Parliament building.

The Gen Z demonstration began from Maitighar this morning.

The protesters breached the restricted area of New Baneshwor which houses the Federal Parliament building. The protestors committed arson and vandalism at the gate of the building, prompting Nepal Police to open blank firing and making dozens of tear gas shells.  

Over 30 police personnel including a Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Inspector have been injured in the clash, while dozens of protestors received injuries.

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Administration has extended curfew in the district.
