Speaker Devraj Ghimire today held a meeting with various political parties to discuss contemporary political developments. 

In the meeting held at the Speaker's Office in Singha Durbar, political parties put their views on behalf of the respective sides. 

Stating that the role of political parties is crucial at present for the protection of the Constitution and the promotion of democracy, the Speaker expected cooperation from all political parties towards that end. 

Talking to media following the meeting, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress in the dissolved House of Representatives, said the Congress, being a democratic party, would not back down from the election. 

"The Supreme Court is the final venue for defining the constitutionality of the dissolution of the House of Representatives. In the present context, we will not move back from the election," he said.  

CPN-UML Chief Whip in the dissolved Parliament, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, said a writ has been already registered in the Supreme Court challenging the Parliament dissolution, expressing his hope that the court would address the issue accordingly. 

He said that the party formally believes the restoration of the Parliament would be the way to 'streamline' the politics.

CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Prasad Pandey said the party would take part in the election if the government ensured a favourable atmosphere towards that end. 

The then chief whips and whips of most of the political parties represented in the dissolved HoR were present in the meeting.
