The Livestock Service Department has forwarded preparation to provide Rs 520 million to the poultry farmers who suffered loss in business due to bird flu spread in various 11 districts. 

The Department is ready to provide the relief amount within a week.

The relief amount would compensate at least 75 percent of the loss caused by the disease. In the course of preventing the disease, the Department had destroyed chicken, eggs and feed.

Spokesperson at the Department, Mukul Upadhyay, said that the concerned farmers would be provided the relief amount within a week. 

The payment would be made through the banking system to the farmers whose business loss was verified after application for relief.

If any farmer misses the time to claim within this fiscal year, he would be ensured payment next year. The amount for compensation is determined based on Bird Flu Control Regulation that evaluates loss conducting verification process.

Spokesperson Upadhyay further requested the poultry owners to apply in the concerned District Livestock Service Office along with the evidence of destroying chicken, egg and feed.

The districts most affected by the bird flu infection are Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchwok, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari,Bara, Chitwan and Nawalparasi. 

So far, the government has destroyed nearly 700 thousand chickens, 1.1 million eggs and 330 tons of feed in a bid to curb the spread of bird flu. 

It is said that the farmers lost nearly Rs 700 million.
