With increasingly active monsoon winds across the country, the Meteorological Forecasting Division is advising the public to exercise caution regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain hilly and southern plains in the coming days.
At present, the monsoon low-pressure system is located slightly above the average range in the west and near the Tarai region in the east. It has resulted in a widespread change in weather patterns throughout the country.
Currently, light to moderate rainfall is occurring in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali Provinces, as well as in few areas of Sudurpashchim Province.
Weather pattern changes are expected in most regions this afternoon.
The weather service predicted moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the mountainous and hilly areas with the potential for snowfall in the higher mountain regions.
Numerous places in the Tarai regions of Madhes Province along with Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, may experience rain with thunder and lightning, as well as some areas in Lumbini and the Far West.
Heavy rainfall is predicted for one or two locations in the hills and Tarai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, including Madhes.
Coming evening, significant weather changes are expected in most areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, while Karnali and the Sudurpaschim Provinces will witness complete shifts. There is a strong likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces as well as in certain Tarai areas of Madhes.
The Division cautions that extreme rainfall could impact one or two locations in the hilly areas of these provinces. It added that heavy and very heavy rainfall is likely on Sunday and Monday, particularly in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces, along with some Tarai regions in Madhes. It may result in flooding.
