RSP's Ranju Darshana elected in Kathmandu-1

Ranju Darshana of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has won the House of Representatives election from Kathmandu Constituency-1 by receiving 15,455 votes. 

Chief Election Officer Churaman Khadka said that 30-year-old Darshana was elected, surpassing her closest competitor Nepali Congress's candidate Prabal Thapa Chhetri by a margin of 9,091 votes. 

Thapa Chhetri of the Congress received 6,364 votes. In this constituency, out of 29,774 votes cast, 29,082 were valid and 692 votes were invalid.

Darshana's political background: 

Darshana, who has been actively involved in politics by leading an alternative political stream, joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party from the Bibekshil Sajha Party prior to the election.

Previously in the election of 2074 BS, Darshana, who was 21 years at that time, was one of the contenders for the mayoral post of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. She also served as the former General-Secretary of the Bibekshil Sajha Party. 

She holds a Master's degree in political science and counseling psychology. 

A strong advocate of violence against women, Darshana has gained experience as a teacher at Thames College and as a guest lecturer at Nicholson International College as well, specializing in social education.

She is recognized as a social activist and is a staunch advocate for the right to information, freedom of expression and defender of civil rights.

HoR elections: RSP takes lead in 40 constituencies

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has taken the lead in the vote tally for 40 constituencies under the House of Representatives (HoR) elections 2026 BS, according to the Election Commission. The voting for the polls was held on Thursday.

Similarly, the CPN-UML is leading in five constituencies, the Nepali Congress (NC) in four, and the Nepali Communist Party is ahead of other parties in one constituency.

RSP leads initial vote tallies in Jhapa-5 and 2

Balendra Shah, the candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections-2026 from Jhapa-5, is leading the initial vote tally. 

According to the District Election Officer's Office, Shah has secured 1,478 votes following the count of 2,303 votes so far.

CPN-UML Chair and candidate KP Sharma Oli has secured 385 votes.

Likewise, in Jhapa-2, RSP candidate Indira Rana Magar is leading the tally with 1,599 votes, while Devraj Ghimire of CPN (UML) has obtained 275 votes.

 

HoR polls: RSP leads in Kathmandu constituencies 6, 7, 8, and 10

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is leading the initial vote tallies in various constituencies in Kathmandu.

In Kathmandu-6, RSP candidate Shishir Khanal is leading with 4,292 votes, according to Election Officer Chapala Pokhrel. Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Krishna Baniya has secured 1,180 votes, and CPN-UML candidate Aman Kumar Maskey has obtained 1,086 votes.

In Kathmandu-7, RSP candidate Ganesh Parajuli is leading with 4,677 votes, said Election Officer Sabita Sharma. CPN-UML candidate Prakash Shrestha has garnered 904 votes, while Pramodhari Guragain from the Nepali Congress has received 720 votes.

Preliminary tallies from Kathmandu-8 show that Biraj Bhakta Shrestha of RSP continues to lead with 7,617 votes, while Suman Sayami from the Nepali Communist Party has secured 938 votes. Sapana Rajbhandari of Nepali Congress has obtained 893 votes, according to Election Officer Samjhana Khanal.

In Kathmandu-10, RSP candidate Pradip Bista is leading with 5,765 votes, while Himal Karki of the Nepali Congress has secured 1,078 votes, said Election Officer Amrita Kumari Sharma. Balaram Thapa of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has obtained 953 votes. 

 

Weather to remain generally fair today

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted that the weather in most parts of the country will remain generally fair today. 

Light rain or snowfall is likely at one or two parts of the country, with generally cloudy in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces.

There will be partially cloudy in the hilly regions , with light rain is likely in a few parts of the country. In the Terai region, the weather will be generally fair, according to the Division. 

The weather in the mountainous and hilly areas of Karnali Province will be generally fair, with the possibility of rain in one or two areas.

The weather in the mountainous and hilly areas of Sudurpashchim Province will also be generally fair, with the possibility of light rain or snowfall in one or two parts. In this province, the Tarai region will generally be fair.

 

Yadav takes early lead from Rupandehi

CPN-UML candidate Pramod Yadav has taken an early lead in the vote count for the House of Representatives election in Rupandehi Constituency No. 4.

Out of 8,463 votes counted, Yadav has received 2,698 votes, while Nepali Congress candidate Ashutosh Mishra has secured 2,247 votes.

RSP’s Kanhaiya Baniya has received 1,830 votes, while other candidates trail behind. Election officials said 510 votes were declared invalid during the counting process.
