India’s Suryakumar shrugs off rain threat to Pakistan T20 World Cup game

Indian captain Suryakumar ⁠Yadav said his players ⁠are not concerned about the threat of rain for Sunday’s Twenty20 World Cup clash with Pakistan, adding that the defending champions are focused on preparing for the showdown between ⁠bitter rivals, Aljazeera reported. 

Pakistan had initially boycotted the Group A fixture in Colombo over Bangladesh’s removal from the tournament for refusing to play in India over security concerns, but reversed their decision on Monday.

But weather forecasts have warned ⁠of heavy rain between Sunday afternoon and evening, casting new doubts over the match, according to Aljazeera ​​​​​​. 

President observes Mahashivaratri and Army Day feu-de-joie in Tundikhel

President Ram Chandra Paudel today attended a special ceremony organized by the Nepal Army (NA), marking Mahashivaratri Festival and Army Day- 2082 BS. Today marks the 263rd Army Day.  

On the occasion, the Head-of-the-State observed the feu-de-joie and NA skill shows and performances. A contingent of NA presented a guard of honor to the President who also serves as the Supreme Commander of the NA.

The President laid a wreath at the NA memorial in Tundikhel. The NA celebrates its establishment in conjunction with the Shivaratri festival, which marks the birthday of Lord Shiva. According to Vedic beliefs, Shiva symbolizes peace and security.

As part of the celebrations, President Paudel also launched the annual magazine "Sipahi-2082 BS," published by the NA Directorate of Public Relations and Information.

Additionally, President Paudel presented prizes to Lieutenant Colonel Bibek Bikram Shah  and Corporal Ramesh Kumar Chaudhary who secured first and second place, respectively, in the 'free fall jump' competition. He also presented "Tokens of Remembrance" to the chiefs of military squads from India, the UK, and the US, who performed band displays during the event.

Before this, Skyhooks Army Aviation Services displayed banners, and an army helicopter showered flower petals on the occasion, also displaying a banner reading 'Sena Diwas-2082 (Army Day-2026)'.

Soldiers of the Nepal Army marked the occasion with celebratory rifle and artillery fire, accompanied by grand parades. The event featured demonstrations of various military skills, floats displaying traditional army attire, and performances by music and dance ensembles. A Nepal Army contingent also took part in the march-past. In addition, a range of vehicles, equipment, and weaponry used by the Army were put on display.

Among the dignitaries present were Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, and National Assembly (NA) Chair Narayana Prasad Dahal. 

The event was also attended by ministers and former ministers, heads and officials of constitutional bodies, senior government authorities, chiefs of security agencies, representatives of diplomatic missions based in Nepal, and other distinguished personalities from various sectors.

A large number of people gathered around the Tundikhel area to witness the celebrations, which were broadcast live by several media outlets, including Nepal Television.

 

 

Birgunj Customs Office collects Rs 135.48 billion in revenue in seven months

The Birgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 135.48 billion in revenue in the first seventh months of the current fiscal year. 

The office had set a target of collecting Rs 153.84 billion in revenue during the period. The revenue collected during the period was 88.07 percent of the target. 

Information Officer at the Office, Uday Singh Bista, shared that the office gathered Rs 18.44 billion in revenue from July 17-August 16, Rs 20.73 billion from August 17-September 16, and Rs 19.9 billion from September 17-October 17.

Bista added that Rs 17.33 billion in revenue was collected from October 18-November 16, Rs 20.80 billion on November 17-December 15 and Rs 20.20 billion from December 16-January 14, 2026.

The Office had set a target of collecting Rs 21.29 billion in revenue from January 15-February 12. It collected only Rs 18.90 billion.

Bista mentioned that the Department of Customs has given a target for Birgunj Customs Office to collect Rs 273.39 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year.

Gold price increases by Rs 2, 300 per tola on Sunday

The price of gold has increased by Rs 2, 300 per tola in the domestic market on Sunday.  

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the precious yellow metal is being traded at Rs 305, 800 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 303, 500 per tola on Friday. 

The price of silver, however, has dropped by Rs 15 and is being traded at Rs 4, 985 per tola today.

Two killed in Rautahat motorbike accident

Two persons died in a motorcycle accident near the Jhanj bridge along the Gaur-Gangapipra road section in Durgabhagawati Rural Municipality-4, Rautahat on Sunday. 

The deceased have been identified as bike rider Jitendra Sah and pillion rider Punam Devi Sah (22) of Yamunamai Rural Municipality-4, Saruatha. 

According to Bishnu Pradip Basyal, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Rautahat, critically injured in the incident, they were rushed to the Gaur Provincial Hospital, but breathed their last during the course of treatment. 

The incident occurred when the motorbike with registration number BR30U 1371 heading towards Gaur from Gangapipara hit a sisau tree. 

 

Markram smashes Proteas to dominant win over New Zealand

Aiden Markram scored a blistering unbeaten 86 as South Africa raced to a seven-wicket win over New Zealand to maintain their 100% record at the T20 World Cup, BBC reported. 

Set 176, the Proteas surged to 83-1 after the powerplay as their captain, assisted by Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton, brutally took down the Black Caps bowlers.

Markram brought up his half century from 19 balls - the joint-fastest of the tournament - with a straight six and with just seven overs of the chase gone, the outcome was never in doubt, according to BBC. 

 

Harry Kane hits 500 career goals as Bayern maintains 6-point Bundesliga lead

England star Harry Kane scored twice for Bayern Munich on Saturday – including his 100th successful penalty – to take his career tally to 500 for club and country, according to stats provider Opta, Associated Press reported. 

Kane’s brace helped Bayern maintain its six-point Bundesliga lead with a 3-0 win at relegation-threatened Werder Bremen.

Kane said he was only told of his achievement after the match.

“It was nice. Obviously a proud achievement to reach 500 goals. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot sacrifice, so nice to reach it. But as always, it’s about the next one,” Kane told broadcaster Dazn. “So the most important thing today is the win, the clean sheet.”

Inter grab last-gasp winner over Juve to move eight points clear at summit

Inter Milan extended their Serie A lead to eight points as they edged 10-man Juventus 3-2 at the San Siro on Saturday with a last-minute winner from Piotr Zielinski, Reuters reported. 

It was a dramatic victory after Juventus looked to be on course for a hard-fought draw despite having Pierre Kalulu sent off in the first half.

Zielinski fired home a left-footed shot from outside the area in the 90th minute to win the game, after Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli had made it 2-2 in the 83rd, according to Reuters.
