Arsenal miss chance to go six points clear with draw at Brentford

Arsenal wasted the chance to restore their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Brentford on Thursday, with Noni Madueke's second-half header cancelled out by Keane Lewis-Potter, Reuters reported.

The hosts were the better side in the first half but could not take advantage of a nervy Arsenal start, with goalkeeper David Raya forced to make a sharp save from Igor Thiago.

Arsenal took the lead in the 61st minute through Madueke, who soared above Rico Henry and nodded Piero Hincapie's ball back across goal and into the net, according to Reuters.

Atletico hit Barcelona for four to take giant step toward Copa del Rey final

Atletico Madrid tore Barcelona apart with four first-half goals to secure a 4-0 victory on Thursday in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, leaving the holders staring at a near impossible task in the return match, Reuters reported.

Diego Simeone's side needed only 45 minutes at home to seize control of the tie, capitalising on a calamitous early error before carving Hansi Flick's team open at will to move to the brink of April's final in Seville.

Atletico took the lead in the sixth minute in extraordinary fashion. Barcelona defender Eric Garcia rolled a routine pass back, but goalkeeper Joan Garcia, already scanning upfield, allowed the ball to slip under his boot and towards goal. His desperate dive came too late as it had crossed the line, according to Reuters.

World Radio Day being marked today

World Radio Day is being observed in several countries across the globe today with diverse programs on the participation of radio, communication experts and broadcasters.

Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO Member States and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, World Radio Day is celebrated every year on February 13.

It is a Day to thank broadcasters for the news they deliver, the voices they amplify and the stories they share.

World Radio Day was first celebrated in 2012 under the leadership of UNESCO. It was initiated in commemoration of the day in 1946 when the United Nations Radio was established.

UNESCO has stated that educational content is presented to audiences across all five continents through 'digital' broadcasting.

According to UNESCO, the purpose of this day is to raise public awareness about the importance of radio as a communication medium, ensure access to information for decision-makers, encourage the use of radio, and strengthen international cooperation among broadcasters worldwide.

Radio is regarded as a powerful medium for celebrating the diversity of human society.

It is established as an important platform for democratic dialogue. Radio remains the most listened-to medium worldwide.

Its unique capability to reach a wide audience makes radio a public forum that fosters the perception of diversity in society, provides opportunities for all voices to speak, be represented, and be heard.

UNESCO has emphasized that radio 'stations' should serve diverse communities by offering various programs, perspectives and content, and should also reflect audience diversity in their structure and operation.

In a message issued on the same occasion, UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enani emphasized that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) should be for the public good, stating that radio must work to provide information honestly and support communities with empathy.

UNESCO has indicated that on the occasion of World Radio Day, various radio stations and broadcasters will conduct special programs, forums, competitions, story collections, and public awareness activities.

US, Taiwan finalize deal to cut tariffs, boost purchases of US goods

Trump administration officials signed a final reciprocal trade agreement that confirmed a 15% U.S. tariff rate for imports from Taiwan, while committing Taiwan to a schedule for eliminating or lowering tariffs on nearly all U.S. goods, Reuters reported.

The document released by the U.S. Trade Representative's office on Thursday also commits Taiwan to significantly boost purchases of U.S. goods from 2025 through 2029, including $44.4 billion of liquefied natural gas and crude oil, $15.2 billion of civil aircraft and engines, $25.2 billion of power grid equipment and generators, marine and steelmaking equipment.

The agreement adds technical language, opens new tab and specific details to a trade framework deal first reached in January that cut tariffs on Taiwanese goods, including from its powerhouse semiconductor industries, to 15% from the 20% initially imposed by Trump. That puts Taiwan on an equal footing with its closest Asian export competitors, South Korea and Japan, according to Reuters.
