Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Luis Diaz scored within three minutes of each other as they beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in their quarter-final on Wednesday to keep up their pursuit of a first German Cup success in six years, Reuters reported. 

Kane, who netted two spot kicks in the 5-1 win over Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday, successfully converted another penalty to hand the hosts a 64th-minute lead, followed by a goal for Diaz, who had claimed a hat-trick against Hoffenheim.

The Colombian kept up his scoring spree in the 67th minute, as he got on the end of Michael Olise’s pass to beat Willi Orban to the ball and edged his finish past the onrushing goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt, according to Reuters. 

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi did not participate in training on Wednesday due to a muscle strain in his left hamstring, with his injury leading to the postponement of what was supposed to be the reigning MLS Cup champions' preseason finale, Reuters reported. 

Inter Miami, who are scheduled to open their MLS campaign on February 21, said the two-time reigning league MVP sustained the injury during a preseason game last weekend against Barcelona Sporting Club in Ecuador, where he scored but was substituted in the second half.

The Nepal Police brought 10 fugitives, who were hiding abroad after being accused of different charges in the country, back home with the help of International Criminal Police Organization(INTERPOL). 

Spokesperson of Nepal Police and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abhi Narayan Kafle said that 10 people were brought back to Nepal from different countries with the help of INTERPOL. 

DIG Kafle stated that the 'red notices' were issued by the INTERPOL against eight and diffusion notices against two other fugitives. It is stated that they were brought to Nepal for legal actions. 

Kafle also pledged to bring back those criminals under the legal framework.   

The ‘red notices’ against the fugitives are issued by INTERPOL at the request of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Nepal Police.

A person died and four others were injured when a car hit a rickshaw at Gitanagar in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan on Thursday. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabindra Khanal of the District Police Office, Chitwan shared that 44-year-old Min Bahadur Khatri, who was severely injured in the mishap, of Madi Municipality-7 in the district died while receiving treatment at the Chitwan Medical College, Bharatpur.  

All four injured people are being treated in the same hospital, police said.

The 62nd Session of the Programming Committee of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) started on Wednesday in Kathmandu, the SAARC Secretariat stated. 

The meeting is being held under the Chairmanship of Nepal and is scheduled to conclude today, bringing together the National Focal Points as well as delegates of the SAARC Member States along with senior officials of the SAARC Secretariat.

Inaugurating the Session, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai underscored the vital role of Programming Committee meetings in keeping SAARC functional and focused. 

According to the SAARC Secretariat, Rai maintained that regional cooperation is not merely 'desirable but also essential’, as it serves as a bridge between national efforts and global processes and provides a platform for collective regional solutions. 

Reaffirming Nepal’s strong belief in the continued relevance of SAARC, he suggested a gradual, step-by-step approach to resuming pending meetings. 

Rai emphasized that a pragmatic, flexible and forward-looking approach would go a long way in ensuring that SAARC, along with its Regional Centres and Specialized Bodies, remain able and empowered to address emerging challenges and deliver tangible results for the benefit of the people of the region.

Likewise, Secretary General of SAARC Md. Golam Sarwar urged for a more dynamic future where practical steps could be taken to turn the aspiration of cooperation into the reality of progress.

The Election Commission (EC) has prepared resource materials for the promotion of civic education targeting the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5.

The resource materials include the contents on democracy, fair election, inclusion, voters' namelist and voting, among others. 

Likewise, the importance of voting, constitutional provisions on elections, elections and political parties are also mentioned in the Civic Education Promotion Resource Materials, according to the EC.

EC's Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC said that the concerned authority, institutions and individuals can promote the civil education based on the resource materials. 

Moreover, the EC is expediting the activities related to the voter education program from February 13.

The US House on Wednesday voted to rescind tariffs that Donald Trump imposed on Canada last year, a rare bipartisan rebuke of the White House’s trade policy as the president threatened electoral retaliation against any Republican who defied him, The Guardian reported. 

The largely symbolic resolution to disapprove of the national emergency Trump declared to impose tariffs on Canada passed 219 to 211, with six Republicans – Don Bacon of Nebraska, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Kevin Kiley of California, Dan Newhouse of Washington and Jeff Hurd of Colorado – voting with all Democrats except Jared Golden of Maine, who voted against it.

“Any Republican, in the House or the Senate, that votes against TARIFFS will seriously suffer the consequences come Election time, and that includes Primaries!” Trump wrote on Truth Social before the vote was finalized, adding: “TARIFFS have given us Economic and National Security, and no Republican should be responsible for destroying this privilege.”
