1 million voters recorded in Karnali Province

The Karnali Province has a total of 1, 037, 250 voters for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) scheduled for March 5.

Information Officer of Karnali Province Election Office, Nandaram Chaulagain, said that the highest number of voters are in Surkhet district with 248,943. Similarly, Dolpa district has the lowest number of voters standing at 24,115.

Likewise, there are 162,449 voters in Salyan, 161,204 voters in Dailekh, 107,091 voters in Jajarkot, 106,660 in Rukum Paschim and 84,646 in Kalikot district.

The Office stated that the number of voters in Jumla is 71,739 and there are 36031 voters in Humla and 34,372 voters in Humla. 

According to Chaulagain, the province has 1,137 voting centres and 941 polling stations. 

There were 908,433 voters in the Karnali Province in the HoR elections held in 2079 BS. 

Women voters outnumber men in Tanahun

Tanahun district has a total of 254,397 voters for the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) scheduled for March 5. 

According to the District Election Office, Tanahun, women voters are more compared to the men voters in the district. 

The Office shared that the number of male voters is 123,491 and the female voters are 130,906. 

District Election Officer Bikas Lamsal said that Vyas Municipality has the highest number of voters and Devghat Rural Municipality has the lowest number in the district. 

He said there are 136,118 voters in constituency 1 and 118,279 voters in constituency  2 in Tanahun district. 

Lamsal stated that 309 voting centers have been managed in the district. 

The Election Commission had collected the voters' names from September 26 to November 21, 2025 by targeting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives. 

 

 

EC appoints Chief Returning Officers, Returning Officers for March 5 elections

The Election Commission on Sunday appointed the Chief Returning Officers and Returning Officers in all districts to conduct the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR)  slated for March 5.

The EC appointed 77 district judges as the Chief Returning Officers as per Clause 8 of HoR Act, 2074 BS. 

The meeting of the Commission took the decision to appoint the district judges as the Chief Returning Officers and the second class officers from the judicial service as the Returning Officers as per the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission effective from January 9, according to the EC.

The Chief Returning Officers and Returning Officers have been asked to be deployed in their concerned election constituencies from January 16. 

The EC has also asked to open and run the offices of the Chief Returning Officers and Returning Officers as well as conduct the election programs in the districts for the March 5 poll.

 

Bangladesh refuse to travel to India for World Cup

Bangladesh will not travel to India for the T20 World Cup next month "under current conditions" and have requested their matches be moved elsewhere, the country's cricket board has said, BBC reported. 

Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released by his Indian Premier League teamat the request of the Indian board amid growing tensions between the countries.

That led to an emergency meeting at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who now say they have "formally requested" the International Cricket Council (ICC) moves all Bangladesh's matches, according to BBC. 

Ex-Australia batter Martyn wakes up from coma in 'miracle' recovery

Former Australia batter Damien Martyn has woken up from an induced coma and is making a "miraculous" recovery after he was diagnosed with meningitis just over a week ago, BBC reported. 

The 54-year-old, who played 67 Test matches between 1992 and 2006, fell ill late last month and was admitted to a Queensland hospital on 27 December.

In a statement on behalf of Martyn's family, close friend and former Australia teammate Adam Gilchrist said on Sunday: "It's been an unbelievable turn of events in the last 48 hours."

Danish PM tells Trump to stop 'threats' against Greenland

Denmark's prime minister has told Donald Trump to "stop the threats" about taking over Greenland, BBC reported. 

Mette Frederiksen said "it makes absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the United States to take over Greenland", adding: "The US has no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom".

Her remarks come after Katie Miller - the wife of one of Trump's aides, Stephen Miller - tweeted a map of Greenland in the colours of the American flag alongside the word "SOON".

South Korea's Lee Jae Myung to meet China's Xi in reset of relations

South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung is set to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping as he seeks to reset frayed ties with his country's biggest trading partner, BBC reported. 

Regional security and Beijing's unofficial ban on Korean pop culture are also on the agenda for Monday's meeting, which is their second summit since November, when Xi visited South Korea. 

Given what a vital economic partner China is, experts say Lee is looking for assurances that it would not weaponise that relationship in the face of political tensions in the region, according to BBC. 

Six killed in Hetauda jeep accident

Six persons died in a jeep accident at Jurikhet in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6,  Hetauda district on Sunday evening.

Among nine persons injured in the accident, six persons died while receiving treatment, according to Pushkar Bogati, spokesperson at the District Police Office, Makwanpur. 

The jeep (Na 1 Ja 1778) was heading towards Hetauda from Kathmandu via Bhimphedi-Kulekhani road section when the incident occurred. 

Spokesperson Bogati further said the injured ones were rescued immediately and taken to Hetauda Hospital. However, the identities of the deceased are yet to be established. . 

Three others injured in the incident have been undergoing treatment at the Hetauda Hospital.
