Manchester City eased into the semi-finals of the League Cup with a 2-0 home win over Brentford on Wednesday, and will meet holders Newcastle United who needed an added-time Lewis Miley goal to beat Fulham 2-1 at St James' Park, Reuters reported. 

Chelsea, who won 3-1 at Cardiff City on Tuesday, will face either Arsenal or Crystal Palace, who contest the last quarter-final next Tuesday, in the other two-legged semi-final.

Pep Guardiola made seven changes from the City side which won 3-0 at Crystal Palace on Sunday but the hosts had little trouble seeing off Brentford who offered very little going forward, according to Reuters. 

Kylian Mbappe moved tantalisingly close to Cristiano Ronaldo's calendar-year scoring record for Real Madrid with a brace as they earned a 3-2 victory at third-tier Talavera de la Reina on Wednesday to reach the Copa del Rey's last 16 after a pulsating encounter, Reuters reported. 

The French striker's two goals, combined with an own-goal by defender Manuel Farrando, proved enough despite strikes from Nahuel Arroyo and Gonzalo Di Renzo that threatened to spoil Real's evening in front of a raucous crowd.

Mbappe, who came into the game with 56 goals scored in all competitions in 2025, is now one goal shy of the 59-goal calendar-year record set by Ronaldo in 2013, according to Reuters. 

In the five months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, the Bagmati Province Government has collected revenue worth Rs 16.11 billion. This is 23.88 percent of the annual target set by the government.

From the first month i.e. Shrawan to Mangsir of the fiscal year, the government collected Rs 8.84 billion from property tax and vehicle tax, informed Indraraj Sanyal, an officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning Development. 

Real estate registration (property tax) and vehicle tax are the main sources of revenue collection for the province government. The government has estimated that Rs 30.89 billion will be collected in the fiscal year 2082/83, under the two headings.

Similarly, the provincial government has collected Rs 2.95 billion in revenue under the vehicle inspection pass, route permit, driver's license distribution and renewal. Another Rs 3.68 billion was collected from the value added tax  and Rs 4.37 billion from excise tax, according to the ministry.

In the current fiscal year 2082/83, out of the estimated Rs 4.77 billion from the revenue collected from the internal sources, the provincial government has collected 31.44 percent or Rs 1.50 billion in the five months.

Korea Overseas Volunteer Taekyu An has completed a KOICA-supported project at the Nepal Red Cross Society’s Provincial Blood Transfusion Service in Pokhara, aimed at improving blood safety and speeding up transfusion services. Assigned since Feb 2025, the project focused on preventing blood contamination, protecting lab staff, and reducing pre-transfusion testing time.

With KOICA’s support, $19,900 was provided to equip the Blood Bank, Kaski with Nepal’s first Automated Cell Washing Centrifuge and a Portable Tube Sealer. The project was formally handed over on 17 Dec 2025, in the presence of KOICA Nepal Country Director Mooheon Kong and NRCS officials, who highlighted the project’s role in ensuring safer and more efficient blood transfusions.

The week-long Sindhuli Junaar Festival is set to kick off in Kathmandu from Dec 18, celebrating Nepal’s iconic citrus fruit while promoting technology-driven and authentic agriculture. The festival will be hosted across various local markets (Haat Bazaars) in Lalitpur and at Raithaane Restaurant in Kupondole.

The event aims to bridge the gap between local produce and modern technology by connecting farmers, local producers, and consumers through innovative agricultural practices. By highlighting Sindhuli Junaar and other local products, the festival seeks to promote domestic production, sustainable farming, and innovation in Nepal’s agricultural sector.

The Election Commission has made public the ‘Civic Education Promotion Resource Booklet for Election Programs’.

The Election Education Resource Booklet, 2082, for social studies teachers has been prepared by the Commission under the theme ‘Election Education and Information Expansion as Infrastructure for Free and Fair Elections’ and made public through its website. 

The resource material includes various topics in seven chapters.

Chapter one covers democracy and the constitution, chapter two covers election and political party related provisions, chapter three covers electoral system, various levels of elections and inclusiveness, and chapter four covers the election cycle and processes (voting process, NOTA, counting, etc.).

Similarly, Chapter Five discusses the election management bodies and related laws, Chapter Six discusses compliance with the election code of conduct, monitoring and supervision, and Chapter Seven discusses election stakeholders, duties and rights of citizens, and the role of teachers in the election process, as well as visits to the Election Education and Information Center.

A total of 2,227 delegates have voted in the election that took place for a new leadership of the CPN-UML. 

The voting took place under the 11th National Congress of the party underway in the federal capital.

The party's Central Election Commission Vice Chair Sanuraj Pokharel shared that the voting concluded at the Congress venue, Bhrikutimandap with a total of 2,227 of 2,263 delegates casting their vote. . 

According to him, 36 people abstained from the voting.

He shared that preparations are underway to start the counting of votes, as some time is required to collect the documents for the counting of votes and establish a consensus. 

The results will be out within three hours of the start of the counting.

Voting for the UML new leadership had begun at 9:12 am on Wednesday. 

A total of 642 candidates had filed nominations for the post of 301 central members in UML. 

For the vote, 80 electronic voting machines were used. Incumbent Chair KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel are leading different groups to be elected as the new leadership of the CPN-UML.

The Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve has provided Rs 3.862 million in relief compensation to farmers affected by wildlife in the last three years.

The hunting reserve has provided relief compensation to the affected farmers of Baglung, Myagdi and Parbat district. 

Farmers have been suffering losses due to the killing of their domesticated cattle including horses, mules, sheep, goats and cows by wild animals from the reserve.

The hunting reserve provided relief to farmers worth Rs 2.492 million in the fiscal year 2079/80, Rs 1.2 million in 2080/81 and Rs 1.70 million in 2081/082, shared Sagar Subedi, ranger of Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve.

“Farmers have been raising a large number of livestock in the vicinity of the hunting reserve area. Every year, farmers have to bear the losses caused by wild animals attacking, injuring, and killing them, so the hunting reserve has been providing some relief,” Ranger Subedi said.

Wild animals from the reserve have also been destroying crops planted in the fields adjoining the reserve. However, the hunting reserve has not been providing relief compensation so far to farmers for crop damage. 

Every year, wild animals from the reserve destroy crops including potatoes and beans, said Tam Bahadur Sunar, a local of Dhorpatan Municipality-9. 

He said that wild animals including wild boars and monkeys feed on and damage various crops while leopards and other animals pounce on sheep and goats.
