DPM Singh appointed acting PM

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has been assigned to work as acting Prime Minister. 

President Ram Chandra Paudel assigned Singh to take up the PM’s job in the absence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Prime Minister Oli last night left for Turkmenistan to attend the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. 

The President has, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, assigned Deputy Prime Minister Singh to carry out the daily administrative jobs of the Prime Minister during the PM's absence, the Office of the President has stated.

 

UML seeks written suggestions for statute convention

In view of the upcoming statute convention, CPN-UML has directed its subordinate committees and sister organizations to provide suggestions on the proposed statute amendment.

The request for written suggestions has been made based on the decision of the ninth meeting of the central committee held on July 21 and 22. 

Following the meeting's decision, Chairman KP Sharma Oli sought suggestions from the subordinates regarding the proposed amendments to be presented at the second statute convention scheduled to be held in Godavari, Lalitpur on September 5 and 6.

Similarly, in-charges, chairpersons, and general secretaries of 23 organizations under the party have been asked to hold secretariat meetings to prepare suggestions on the statue. 

The sister organizations of the party have been sought to have uniform understanding for the decision of the central committee, the circular, and the preparations for the statute general assembly. 

Such a unified view would help leadership make Mission-2084 successful, according to leader Bhanubhakta Dhakal.

 

Bagmati Province CM Lama calls it quits

Amid intra-party tussle in the Nepali Congress, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama has announced his resignation on Sunday. 

He announced his resignation at a press conference organized at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Hetauda on Sunday. 

He shared that although he went to submit his resignation this evening at the Office of the Provincial Chief in Hetauda, Provincial Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota was not present in the Office.

Chief Minister Lama is scheduled to submit his resignation letter to the Province Chief tomorrow. 

After losing Parliamentary Party leader post to another leader Indra Bahadur Baniya on July 30, Chief Minister Lama resigned from his post. 

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba also directed Lama to step down after losing the post of parliamentary leader. 

Chief Minister Lama, however, informed the media persons that he thought it was appropriate to establish political values and norms and work under the direction of party leadership. He was resigning in line with this spirit, Lama added. 

CM Lama expressed commitment to move forward in agreement and cooperation under the leadership of the newly elected parliamentary party leader in the Province Assembly, Indra Bahadur Baniya.

 

George John  Foundation  honors education activists

The George John Educational Foundation, established by senior professor Dr. George John and his wife Dr. Eliama John—who played a significant role in the academic development of Prithvi Narayan Campus, one of the leading campuses in Gandaki Province—has honored several education personalities and activists from various fields this year.

On the occasion of the foundation’s 29th anniversary, a special ceremony was organized on Saturday at the Gandaki Academy of Literature and Culture, where five education service contributors were honored with special certificates of appreciation.

This year’s honorees included Narendra Man Lalchan, Chairperson of Pokhara Multiple Campus Management Committee; Prof. Dr. Lekhnath Bhattarai and Prof. Dr. Yadav Gaudel from Prithvi Narayan Campus; Chhabilal Acharya; and health service contributor Sakun Singh. They were honored by Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey with certificates, ceremonial shawls, and cash prizes.

The George John Educational Foundation is a social organization established 30 years ago in Pokhara dedicated to educational development. It conducts programs such as educational contributor honors, capacity building, scholarships for meritorious students, and support for underprivileged and needy students.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Pandey praised the honored individuals, stating that their continuous service in the field of education is a source of inspiration for the entire community. Educational activist George John emphasized that the development of the education sector should be embraced as the fundamental basis for the overall development of society.

Speakers at the event included Prithvi Narayan Campus Chief Hari Pathak; former president of the George John Educational Foundation Bishnuraj Parajuli; current president Gehendra Shwar Koirala; honorees Narendra Man Lalchan and Prof. Dr. Lekhnath Bhattarai; Pokhara Multiple Campus Chief Shishukala Parajuli; Foundation Secretary Aruna Sherchan; and student representative Vivek Tiwari, among others.

On this occasion, students from Prithvi Narayan Campus who achieved outstanding results this year in the faculties of Science and Technology, Management, Humanities, and Education were also honored and awarded. They were Kriti Bhattarai, Bijay Subedi, Vivek Tiwari, and Amrit Poudel, respectively.

 

 

20 dengue cases recorded in Chitwan in 15 days

Chitwan district has recorded 20 cases of dengue disease in the past 15 days.

Such numbers of dengue patients were confirmed from among the patients who visited the health facilities in the district for treatment. 

Public Health Officer at the Public health Office, Chitwan, Anshu Pokharel, said 20 people were found suffering from dengue in the course of conducting blood tests of 798 people. 

Of the infected ones, 14 were from Chitwan district while the remaining other patients were from other districts. 

Dengue disease is transmitted to humans from the bite of a female mosquito (Aedes aegypti). 

Joint, muscle and body pain, rashes on skin, bleeding, high fever are some of the symptoms of dengue disease.

It is necessary to keep the surroundings clean to be protected from mosquito bites.

Meanwhile, 32 people were diagnosed with scrub typhus in the district during the same period.

Such a number of scrub typhus was recorded from the patients who came for treatment in various health facilities in the district.

Pokharel shared that of the dengue patients, 23 were from Chitwan while nine were from other districts. 

Scrub typhus is transmitted to humans through bites from mites that infest rodents or other animals. Symptoms include high fever, red eyes, coughing, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, and body pain. Black spots can sometimes appear at the bite site.

Scrub typhus is caused by the bacterium Orientia tsutsugamushi and is transmitted to humans through bites from infected mites (chiggers). 

Fever, redness in the eyes, cough, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, breathing complications, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, malaise, and sometimes black spots in the bite site are its common symptoms. 

To prevent infection, the people are advised to wear long-sleeved clothing, using insect repellent, maintaining clean surroundings, trimming grass near homes, and controlling rodents through proper grain storage. 

The first case of scrub typhus was reported in 2015 in Chitwan.

 

Falling tree crushes two to death, injures three in Sindhuli

A falling tree crushed two persons to death and injured three others at Bastipur of Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality-1 in Sindhuli district.

According to Deputy Superintendent at the District Police Office, Surya Prakash Subedi, the incident occurred this afternoon when a heavy rain caused a landslide, and a tree fell on a shelter where the victims were staying. 

Nine-year-old Sarki Thing and 16-year-old Shanta Gole, who were taking shelter in the hut, died in the incident. 

The police added that both of them died on the spot.

Similarly, 14-year-old Srijana Maya, 15-year-old Sandhya Blon, and seven-year-old Sushil Thing were injured in the incident.  

They have been taken to Hetauda Hospital for treatment.

 

'Bagmati Province declared fully immunized zone'

Bagmati Province has been declared a fully immunized zone today. 

At a program organized by the Ministry of Health of Bagmati Province in Bhaktapur, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli declared the province as a fully immunized zone with the guarantee that the children under 15 months of age in 13 districts and 119 local levels of the province administered all routine vaccines.  

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli presented a certificate to the Bagmati Province Health Minister, Kiran Thapa, provided by the National Immunization Coordinating Committee of the Ministry of the Health and Population under the federal government.

Meanwhile, PM Oli also inaugurated a 'Digital Health' programme. 

Congratulating the province, he mentioned that the 'Healthy Nepal' campaign was launched to achieve the national aspiration of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali'. 

PM Oli stressed the need of carrying out activities to keep humans, cattle and plants healthy as well as to keep cities and villages clean. 

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli honoured outstanding employees, women community health volunteers.

Similarly, Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Bahadur Singh Lama shared that the full immunization campaign became successful from continuous efforts of the health sector.

 

PM Oli leaving for Turkmenistan on August 3

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is leaving for Turkmenistan on August 3 leading a Nepali delegation to the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated. 

The Conference is being held from August 5 to 8 in Awaza, Turkmenistan.

Prime Minister Oli is visiting Turkmenistan to attend the Conference at the invitation of Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the President of Turkmenistan, and Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General.

PM Oli is scheduled to address the Conference as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and in national capacity, according to the Ministry.

Likewise, the Prime Minister will also co-chair a high-level roundtable of the Conference and address other events.

Besides, the Prime Minister will meet heads of delegations from various countries and other high-level dignitaries of the UN and other international organizations on the margins of the Conference, the Ministry shared. 

PM Oli will be accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Member of the Federal Parliament Surya Bahadur Thapa Kshetree and other high-ranking government officials during the visit.

The Ministry shared that the PM will return to Nepal on August 8.
