Dengue infection has been confirmed in 3,889 people in Chitwan in the last fiscal year 2024/25. 

According to the Public Health Office, 3,020 people, including 1,548 men and 1,472 women, were infected with dengue within Chitwan district. 

Similarly, 869 people, including 412 men and 457 women, who came from other districts, were infected with dengue.

The highest number of infections was seen in Bharatpur Municipal Corporation, where 1,171 people were confirmed infected. The lowest was in Madi Municipality with 37 infected. One person died due to dengue in the last fiscal year.

During the year, 17,353 people underwent tests for Dengue. 

Ram KC, Vector Control Inspector of the Public Health Office, said dengue infection was seen in 1,831 people in the previous fiscal year, which was confirmed by tests of 23,840 people.

Dengue fever was first traced in Nepal in 2004 in Chitwan. The infection was confirmed in a Japanese tourist who came to Chitwan that year. 

The Public Health Office has stated that the main way to prevent dengue fever is to avoid mosquito bites.

With monsoon winds impacting the length and breadth of the country, there is possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces as well as in the hilly regions of rest of the provinces. 

Furthermore, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at many places of hilly regions of the country including Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali Provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

As the weather remains generally cloudy throughout the country, there are also chances of light to moderate snowfall at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible at many places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces and at a few places in the rest of the country. There are chances of very heavy rainfall at a few places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Light to moderate snowfall is likely at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country, adds the Department.

Hong Kong issued its highest storm warning on Sunday as Typhoon Wipha, packing winds of more than 167 kilometres (103 miles) per hour, brought heavy rain and wind across the territory, forcing the cancellation of more than 200 flights, BBC reported.

The city's weather observatory raised its storm signal to No. 10 at 9:20 a.m. (0120 GMT) and said it expected it to remain at that level "for some time".

Wipha will skirt around 50 km to the south of the observatory, the warning showed. Hurricane-force wind is affecting the southern part of Hong Kong, the observatory said, according to BBC.

The body of the husband of a couple, who went missing after a landslide buried a house at Langdi in Deurali of Modi Rural Municipality-3, Parbat on Sunday, has been found.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista of the District Police Office, Parbat informed that locals and security personnel found the body of 78-year-old Chhabilal Bishwakarma buried this afternoon.

Police are searching for Bishnumati who also went missing along with Chhabilal.

The landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried their house this morning.

The price of gold has increased by Rs 800 per tola in the domestic market on Sunday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the precious yellow metal is being traded at Rs 193, 300 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 192, 500 per tola on Friday.

Similarly, the silver is being traded at Rs 2, 285 per tola today.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey pointed out the need of exploring safe alternative route to scale the world's highest peak, Sagarmatha, with a conclusion that the existing route to the summit was getting riskier.

The discussion held in the Ministry on Friday drew a conclusion to explore alternatives to the existing traditional route from Khumbu Icefall to Camp 1 since as it is quite complex and riskier for the climbers.

"Sagarmatha is the symbol of our national pride. Every year, thousands of foreigners and Nepali climbers come here to scale the summit. We should open up for secured, environment-friendly and sustainable solutions for their life saving", Minister Pandey noted in the discussion.

Also on the occasion, famous French mountaineer Mark Mari Batart and Nepali climber Sping Kaji Sherpa had presented comprehensive information about research, survey and photographic documents about the alternative route to highest peak.

Batart and Sherpa have been active in the campaign for exploring new route to the summit since 2018 AD.
