PM calls for fair justice delivery
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged all sides concerned for independent and fair justice delivery. Giving a message of best wishes via social media on the occasion of Law Day today, PM Dahal wished the Day inspired all to work for building an independent and fair judiciary in the country.
Police team attacked in Kalikot
A police team mobilized to arrest a rape accused has been attacked at Sain of Patala Rural Municipality-6. The villagers attacked the security personnel while they were trying to nab rape accused Sankalpa Budha, 31, on Monday. Assistant Police Inspector Lamxi Dhungel Rawat from Area Police Office, Patala was injured in the attack. Similarly, a local Dhan Man BK was injured in retaliation. Both the injured have been undergoing treatment at a local health post, according to Police Inspector Shuvraj Bam. Budha has been absconding following the incident. Search for him is underway, Bam added. Budha was accused of raping a Dalit woman in the village on October 17 last year. The victim’s family had filed an FIR at the District Police Office after a month of the crime. But the accused had been absconding. The police team was mobilized after police knew that Budha had arrived at his village. Although he was arrested while sleeping at home, the police team could not tackle villagers' attack, thereby being bound to lose the captive.
Four local governments of Rolpa recruit own police
Four local governments in Rolpa district have recruited their own police. Rolpa municipality of the district along with Sunilsmriti, Runtigadhi and Madi Rural Municipality have managed their own police mechanism. Rolpa municipality has recruited 10 city police personnel, including three women. The city police have a head constable and nine constables. The Rolpa Municipality which is in the district capital has been mobilizing city police in traffic management, market monitoring and security of structures in tourism sites. Runtigadhi is the first local government of the district to recruit its own police. The local government recruited nine city police, including a woman. It has recruited police personnel by creating a position of Chief and eight city police personnel. Chairperson of Runtigadhi Rural Municipality Janak Pun said that the city police have been engaged in security and development activities. "The city police are being mobilized to keep the law and order situation in the rural municipality", he added. Madi has also recruited its own police personnel by naming it 'village police'. It has recruited seven village police, including two females. The village police have one Assistant Sub Inspector and six police personnel. Likewise, Sunilsmriti has also recruited five city police. According to Sunilsmriti Rural Municipality Chair Maniram Budhathoki, city police personnel have been mobilized for traffic management, market monitoring and maintaining law and order. The local level had conducted a month-long training for the newly-recruited police personnel on salutation, parade, mob control, rescue, disaster management and rescue and weapon operation. The local governments have put forth a plan to mobilize the city/village police to assist in the collection of revenue and judiciary committee and guiding tourists and securing office structures. Rolpa has 10 local level government units, including a municipality.
Economic situation not worrisome; efforts on for improvements: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said the present situation was not worrisome as efforts were underway to bring improvements in the country's economy by addressing the problems. There was panic created among people alleging a looming economic crisis, but the situation is not like that and such anxiety has been gradually diminishing, he said while addressing the Nepal Trade Summit-2023 here. "Last year, panic was created alleging that Nepal's economy is about to go bankrupt like that of Sri Lanka. But now, there is no such situation. Presently, we do not mention an example of Sri Lanka. There is a serious economic problem. But the situation has not reached the point where panic has been created. The government has focused on how to ease the economic situation." He blamed the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and various global political and economic episodes for Nepal's affected economy while urging all to be responsible and put in efforts for economic improvement. The PM also stressed the need for all sectors including the government, respective sectors, development partners, main political parties and other stakeholders to come together to expedite economic activities of the country. To make the economy vibrant in the crisis is one of the prime needs of the hour, according to the Prime Minister who said the government was cautiously trying to achieve economic growth with the acceleration of economic activities. "Amidst vivid challenges, the nation's economy is gradually taking a path of improvement and it has been reflected in national and international data." Despite the projections of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank about the possibility of economic slowdown in other developed and developing countries, Nepal's economy is gradually improving, the Prime Minister claimed. "We observed the balance of payment surplus for some time and the status of Forex has improved, the quantity of imports has decreased and the rise in remittance inflow is encouraging. Overall, the external indicators of the nation's economy are improving. " As he said, the maximum utilization of internal resources to advance towards economic prosperity should be the priority of the government's upcoming policies and programs and the budget. "Nepal is rich in water, land and other means of natural resources including forest productions and herbs. In addition to this, it is enriched by the youth force. Exploration of abundant possibilities in these sectors and their proper utilization is vital to build a prosperous Nepal. "There is a need to increase domestic and foreign investment in agriculture and forest, hydropower, tourism and IT, the areas with abundant potential to achieve rapid economic growth." According to the Prime Minister, the government prioritizes the agricultural sectors and has the policy of promoting agriculture, tourism, hydropower and entrepreneurship to promote domestic improvement and improve exports, keeping the economy vibrant. As he said, the government is serious towards taking efforts aiming to improve economic indicators.
Two boys drown in Dhanusha pond
Two boys drowned while bathing in a pond at Basahiya of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-24, Dhanusha district on Saturday. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Prasad Gautam of District Police Office, Dhanusha, the deceased have been identified as Mohammad Alkama Ansari (9) and Mohammad Abdul Ansari (9). The boys were sent to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham immediately after the incident but died while receiving treatment, according to DSP Gautam.
Three dead in Mugu avalanche
Three persons died in an avalanche at Chyarkhu pass of Mugu district on Saturday. Vice Chairperson of Patarasi Rural Municipality Jan Maya Rokaya said that Tara Singh Sarki, 40, Purna Sarki, 36, and Bir Bohara, 36, of Talfigaun of Patarasi-2, Jumla district died in the avalanche. Fourteen people from Patarasi had gone to Chyarkhu to collect Yarshagumba. Of them three passed away and nine others sustained minor injuries in the avalanche. A team of police personnel has headed towards the incident site. Rokaya said that the District Administration Office, Province Government and Federal Government have been informed to carry out the rescue operations. Hundreds of people have traveled to the highlands in Mugu district to collect Yarshagumba though the local authorities have not allowed the pickers to the site before May 18. It has been learnt that the three persons who died in the avalanche had gone to the highlands (locally known as Patan) by using illegal routes.
President, PM congratulate King Charles III
President Ram Chandra Paudel has sent a message of congratulations to His Majesty King Charles III on His Majesty’s Coronation as the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In his message on Saturday, President Paudel has mentioned about the valuable works of His Majesty in the past as the Prince of Wales on important global agendas such as environment conservation and sustainable development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said issuing a press statement. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President has recalled His Majesty’s connection with Nepal which was demonstrated by the number of visits His Majesty paid to Nepal as the Prince. Highlighting the longstanding friendship between Nepal and the United Kingdom, the President has stated that the spheres of cooperation between the two countries have been growing over the years to encompass multiple areas of mutual interest. Likewise, in a separate message, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has extended congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty King Charles III on behalf of the people and Government of Nepal. Mentioning that this year marked the centenary of the Nepal-UK Friendship Treaty of 1923, the PM Dahal has stated that the relations between the two countries are characterized by goodwill, mutual respect and cooperation. Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud attended the Coronation Ceremony in London on Saturday representing Nepal.
Government's key priorities are social justice, good governance and prosperity: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that his government was advancing firmly for the strengthening of the republic and implementation of the Constitution by according top priority for social justice, good governance and prosperity. In a message of Ubhauli Parva of Kirant community today, the PM said that progressive implementation of the rights ensured in the Constitution is the key responsibility of the time and has expressed the confidence that the entire community's support will be there in the government's efforts to establish people's rights. Saying that Ubhauli Parva which came into existence with the entry of civilization in the agricultural era, the PM said that this festival is more inspiring for the agricultural country like Nepal. The PM has added that Ubhauli Parva is being institutionalized as a common festival to all Nepalis, along with the Kirant community, having ideas on productions. Likewise, PM Dahal has wished for happiness, peace, long life and prosperity to all Nepalis along with the Kirant community at home and abroad.
