Trump says India deal not finalised, higher tariffs possible

U.S. President Donald Trump said a trade deal with India has yet to be finalised and warned of possible higher tariffs ahead of an August 1 deadline to seal an agreement, Reuters reported.

His comments followed a Reuters report that India was preparing to accept higher tariffs of 20%-25% on its exports to the U.S. in the absence of a trade deal, as it holds off on offering fresh concessions ahead of Friday's deadline.

"India has been a good friend, but India has charged basically more tariffs, almost more than any other country," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Tuesday, adding that would come to an end, according to Reuters.

Asked about the Reuters report, Trump said a trade deal had not been finalised and India could face steeper tariffs

Tsunami waves reach Hawaii after huge quake rattles Russia's Far East

A powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake off Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula triggered tsunami waves of up to 5 metres (16 feet) and sparked evacuation orders in Hawaii and across the Pacific on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The shallow earthquake damaged buildings and injured several people in the remote Russian region, while much of Japan's eastern seaboard - devastated by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in 2011 - was ordered to evacuate.

A resident in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky said the shaking rumbled for several minutes, according to Reuters.

"I decided to leave the building," said Yaroslav, 25. "It felt like the walls could collapse any moment. The shaking lasted continuously for at least 3 minutes.”

New York Governor Kathy Hochul urged New Yorkers to check on vulnerable neighbours, saying that heat was the number one cause of extreme weather fatalities in the state.

The weather is forecast to cool on Thursday a day after storms roll through the region, according to BBC.

Trump says US will partner with Israel to run additional food centers in Gaza, but details are scant

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned from a trip to Scotland that Israel would preside over the new food centers “to make sure the distribution is proper.”

“We’re going to be dealing with Israel, and we think they can do a good job of it,” Trump said, according to Associated Press.
