Three injured as train hits car in Janakpur
Three persons were injured when a train hit a car near Thapa Chowk in Brahmapuri, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-9.
The Nepal Railways train coming from Pipradhi Station in Mahottari to Janakpurdham hit the car (Bagmati Province 01-025Cha 1290) at 8: 30 am today, District Police Office Spokesperson Barun Bahadur Singh.
According to local eyewitnesses, a loud noise was heard when the train hit the car, which was reportedly carrying three people.
Luckily, the occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries, while the car suffered significant damage.
The train service was disrupted for some time after the accident.
Further investigation is underway on the matter, shared Police Spokesperson Singh.
Wife killed, husband injured in Ramechhap jeep accident
A woman died and her husband sustained injuries when a Scorpio jeep they were travelling in met with an accident at Bokse Pahiro in Manthali Municipality-6, Ramechhap on Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as 40-year-old Radha Karki Chauhan. She died on the spot.
Her husband Uttam Chauhan (45), who was driving the four-wheeler, was injured in the accident.
The jeep (Ba 13 Cha 3935) was heading towards Hetauda from Manthali when the incident occurred.
Police Inspector Kaushal Neupane of the District Police Office, Ramechhap said that the injured one has been taken to Kathmandu for further treatment after receiving primary treatment at the Manthali Community Hospital.
Inspector Neupane stated that the vehicle fell some 100 meters down the road and landed on the bank of the Tamakoshi River.
It has been learnt that they were on their way to Hetauda to meet their son.
Country records 2,675 disaster-related incidents in four months
Over a period of four months (mid-April to mid-August), the country recorded a total of 2,675 disaster-related incidents. The number of households affected by such incidents stands at 4,725.
According to updates from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), these incidents resulted in 117 human casualties and 564 injuries.
The segregated data shows that there were 198 flood-related incidents, resulting in 16 deaths and 21 people reported missing. Floods alone affected 1,313 households.
There were 281 reported cases of landslides, resulting in 13 deaths and 17 injuries. In addition, 174 incidents were attributed to heavy rains, 244 to lightning strikes, and 74 to snakebites. Fire-related incidents totaled 1,066, including 158 wildfires.
Likewise, there were 276 windstorm incidents, followed by 153 animal attacks, 41 cases of high-altitude sickness, and five earthquake-related events. Overall, these disasters affected 4,725 households, with 22 people reported missing.
Furthermore, on August 9 alone, the country recorded 35 disaster-related incidents. Of these, the highest 13 cases were due to landslides, followed by five from continuous rainfall, two cases of altitude sickness, and one each from a lightning strike and an animal attack. These incidents caused six injuries.
28 gates of Koshi Barrage opened following rise in water level
Continuous rainfall over the past few days has led to a significant rise in the water level of the Saptakoshi River. With this development, 28 out of 56 sluice gates at the Koshi Barrage have been opened.
According to the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal No. 4 Headquarters, the water flow at the Koshi Barrage was recorded at 200,430 cusecs (cubic feet per second) at 9 pm on Saturday.
A red warning light has been activated, as the water flow exceeded the danger threshold of 150,000 cusecs.
Security officials have confirmed that, so far, no water-induced damage was reported in the area until last night.
