South Africa thump India to assert T20 World Cup title credentials

South Africa bulldozed defending champions India by 76 runs on Sunday in their Super Eight Group One clash in the Twenty20 World Cup, underlining their title credentials and sending a strong signal to their rivals, Reuters reported.

Choosing to bat in a rematch of the 2024 World Cup final, South Africa surged to a commanding 187‑7 following a remarkable recovery from a precarious 20-3.

In reply, tournament co-hosts India's timid top-order faltered swiftly, and their innings never quite escaped the grip of scoreboard pressure. They were bundled out for 111 in 18.5 overs, slipping to their first defeat of the World Cup, according to Reuters.

Pakistan v New Zealand T20 World Cup match washed out

Rain washed out New Zealand's Super Eight match against Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup on Saturday, Reuters reported.

Pakistan captain Salman Agha won the toss and elected to bat in the Group Two match but play could not begin as the rain only got heavier and puddles formed on the covers on the outfield.

The teams earned one point each from the abandoned first fixture of the tournament's Super Eight, according to Reuters.

Ten-man Chelsea implode again in home draw with Burnley

Chelsea succumbed to familiar failings on Saturday as they took an early lead against struggling Burnley but suffered a sixth red card of the season and conceded a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw, Reuters reported.

Having given up a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Leeds United in their previous home game, coach Liam Rosenior said he was still learning who he could rely on when things get tough.

"We have set fire to four points from two home games," Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca in mid-January, told reporters. "It's not good enough for a club of this level."

Late goals keep Inter in control of Serie title race

Late strikes from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Manuel Akanji sealed a 2-0 victory for Inter Milan at Lecce on Saturday to keep them firmly in control of the Serie A title race, Reuters reported.

Inter lead with 64 points, 10 ahead of AC Milan and 14 clear of Napoli in third.

A cutback from the byline in the 51st minute picked out Federico Dimarco on the edge of the box and he drilled a low shot into the corner, but the celebrations were brief as Marcus Thuram had strayed offside in the build-up, according to Reuters.
