Lalitpur City FC signed national football team defender Ananta Tamang as their marquee player for the highly anticipated Nepal Super League 2023.

Tamang, a celebrated Nepali professional footballer, has made an indelible mark in the realm of the sport.

Renowned for his exceptional prowess as a defender, Tamang's journey has been nothing short of remarkable.

Born on 14 January 1998, his remarkable career includes stellar contributions to Church Boys United as Captain and serving as a stalwart in the Nepal national team.

Lalitpur City FC's reveal of Ananta Tamang as their marquee player is a testament to the club's relentless pursuit of excellence, reads a statement issued by the Lalitpur City Football Club.

His signing heralds a new hope in Nepali football, strengthening the club's defense with his wealth of experience, leadership, and unwavering commitment.

The news of Tamang joining Lalitpur City FC has reverberated through the football community, generating a wave of excitement and anticipation. His presence promises to elevate the team's performance and inspire emerging talents to strive for greatness, according to the statement.

In a noteworthy achievement, Tamang recently clinched the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award at the prestigious Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023, a testament to his exceptional skills and commitment to the sport.

He is also the first Nepali player to play in the Indian Super League, India’s top tier league.

On the third day of GEMS Thunderbolts Cup Sports Mega Event, APF School Cricket Team defeated NIST School, Bhaktapur by a huge margin of 160 runs. Mokshada School advanced their way into the semi-finals by defeating NIST School and APF School by 134 runs and seven wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, in another match played between Caribbean School and Angel Heart School, Angel Heart School defeated Caribbean School in the super over.

Similarly, in the U-16 boys category of football, Sainik School defeated NIST School Bhaktapur by 3-0, while APF School defeated Kanjirowa School in the same category by a massive difference of 16-0. Also, in the football match in the U-12 boys category, Nepal Police School registered their victory over Sainik School by 5-0, while APF School defeated Modern School in the same category by a huge difference of 10-0.

Further, in the basketball group events, Teresa School managed to record their victory over Sanskriti School by 31-30 points. Meanwhile, Wilson School Defeated NIST School by a big margin of 38-20  points. Ullens School, on the other hand,  had an easy victory over Little Flower School by 57- 33 points. In the following matches, GEMS School recorded 38 points against Radiant School's 19 points. Additionally, Nisarga School, Sainik School and Little Angels' School registered victory in their respective matches.

Nepal achieved a historic milestone in T20 international cricket during their match against Mongolia at the Asian Games on Wednesday, becoming the first men’s team to surpass 300 runs. They made this record-breaking score by accumulating 314-3 in their allotted 20 overs in Hangzhou.

This performance surpassed the previous highest score of 278-3 set by Afghanistan against Ireland in 2019.

The attack was led by teenager Kushal Malla, who batted at number three and smashed the quickest T20 international century, achieving it in just 34 balls. This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record jointly held by South Africa’s David Miller, India’s Rohit Sharma, and the Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramasekara, all achieved in 35 balls. 

Malla, a left-hander, made his Nepal debut at the age of 15 and concluded the innings with an unbeaten 137 off only 50 balls, marking his first T20 international century. He hit an impressive 12 sixes and eight fours. 

Nepal’s batsmen displayed their dominance on a sunny morning at the Zhejiang University for Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field. Captain Rohit Paudel contributed 61 runs off 27 balls, with six sixes. 

But it was Dipendra Singh Airee who concluded the innings in an extraordinary manner against the Mongolian bowlers, smashing an unbelievable eight sixes and an unbeaten 52 off 10 balls. The 23-year-old powerhouse achieved 50 runs in just nine balls, setting yet another T20 world record. His astonishing performance broke the previous record of 12 balls set by India’s Yuvraj Singh against England in 2007, where the all-rounder hit six sixes off the final over bowled by Stuart Broad.

Nepal’s innings of 26 sixes set a new record, surpassing Afghanistan’s 22 against Ireland. Mongolia, on the other hand, were dismissed for 41 in 13.1 overs.
Nepal’s winning margin of 273 runs was the largest ever in a men’s T20 international in terms of runs, surpassing the Czech Republic’s 257-run margin against Turkey in 2019.

Mongolia’s cricket team faced a tough initiation in their first Asian Games. They will need to regroup quickly to face the Maldives as the men’s preliminary rounds continue on Thursday. Nepal, on the other hand, will go up against the Maldives on Saturday.

In the upcoming quarter-final stage of the Asian Games, the preliminary group winners will be joined by cricket giant India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

Nepal defeated Mongolia by 273 runs in the T20I match under the Asian Games on Wednesday.

Invited to bat first after losing the toss at the Pingfeng Cricket Ground in Zhejiang University of Technology, China, Nepal gathered 314 runs at the loss of three wickets in allotted 20 overs.

Chasing the mammoth target, Mongolia were bowled out in 13.1 overs scoring 41 runs.

Nepal's bowlers, Karan KC, Abhinas Bohora and Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets each and Sompal Kami, Kushal Bhurtel and Deependra Singh Airi sent one each to the pavilion.

Earlier, Kushal Bhurtel and Deependra Singh Airi of Nepal made record runs.  Kushal Malla set a world record by smashing a maiden century off 34 balls.

He broke the fastest-century records by David Miller (South Africa), Sudesh Bikramashekhar (Czech Republic) and Rohit Sharma (India) All three batsmen had a record of smashing centuries off 24 balls.

Likewise, Deependra Singh Airi made another world record by smashing half a century in nine balls. Earlier, there was a world record in the name of Indian batsman Yubraj Singh who struck half a century off 12 balls.

Kushal Malla scored unbeaten 137 runs off 50 balls and Airi 52 runs off 10 balls to steer Nepal to the record win.

Likewise, Captain Rohit Kumar Poudel made 61 runs off 27 balls, Kushal Bhurtel 19 off 23 balls and Sheikh 16 runs off 17 balls.

Nepal will play their next match against the Maldives.
