Ninth National Games: Anish Thapa Magar wins gold medal in marathon

Anish Thapa Magar of Gandaki Province clinched the gold medal in marathon under the men’s category in the Ninth National Games being held in Pokhara on Tuesday. The Indian Army, Anish, is from Parbat district. He won the gold medal by completing 42.195 kilometer distance in 2 hours 22 minutes and 54 seconds. Similarly, Krishan Basnet of Nepali Army and Santosh Bikram Bista of Armed Police Force won silver and bronze medals respectively. A total of 18 players had participated in the marathon.

9th National Games: Jay Rani wins three gold medals, sets national record in long jump

Jay Rani Tharu of Tribhuvan Army Club of the Nepali Army has set a national record in women's long jump under the 9th National Games taking place in Gandaki Province. Jay Rani clinched the gold medal with a jump of 5.58 meters in the match held at Pokhara Stadium, Kaski. Earlier, Nisha Chaudhary of Lumbini Province had the national record with a jump of 5.47 meters.  This time, Nisha won the silver medal with a jump of 5.49 meters. Similarly, Shila Chaudhary of APF Club of Armed Police Force received a bronze medal. This is the third gold medal of Jay Rani in this 9th National Games.  

9th National Games: NA in top with 61 gold medals

The Tribhuvan Army Club of Nepal Army (NA) is on the top of the table in the ongoing 9th National Games in Pohara. So far, the NA has secured 62 gold medals out of 139 gold medals secured in different games. Similarly, the NA got 39 silver and 28 bronze medals. Nepal Police Club is in the second position and the APF Club the third. The APF Club got 23 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze medals totaling 65 while Police Club got 16 gold, 25 silver and 33 bronze medals totaling 74. Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and NRNA have secured fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively. Bagmati Province got 14 gold, 22 silver and 23 bronze medals, while Gandaki Province got 10 gold, 8 silver and 20 bronze medals and NRNA each got six gold and silver and four bronze medals. Moreover, Province 1 is in the seventh position, Madhes Province in the eight, Sudurpaschim in the ninth, Lumbini in the tenth, Karnali Province in the 11th position. So far, 139 each gold and silver medals and 186 bronze medals have been secured.

9th National Games: Gandaki Province turns champion with four gold medals in full contact karate

The Gandaki Province has become champion with four gold medals in full contact karate under the 9th National Games, 2079. Deputy Coordinator of the National Games Deepak Godar said that the Gandaki Province has outshined the Nepal Army to become the champion with four gold. Pushpa KC of Gandaki Province won a gold medal in the women's below 40-kg category. She had defeated Garima Karki of Sudurpaschim Province to emerge the province champions in full contact karate. Likewise, Nepal Army and Gandaki Province secured equal three gold medals in another tournament. In the karate held in 12 categories including seven for men's and five for women's, Gandaki won three gold medals including two under men's in 30-40 and 45-50 kg categories and one under women's in 50-55 weight group category. Likewise, the Nepal Army secured gold medals including two in open weight category and one in 60-65 weight category. Bijaya Singh of the Army won the gold medal in the men's open category. He defeated Rupak Nepali of Gandaki Province in the final. Nepal Army's Sani Singh also secured gold in men's 60-65-kg weight category. He won the gold by defeating Shiva Bhujel of Gandaki. Similarly, Sushan Lamichhane of the Nepal Police won gold medal and Bikas Gurung of Army won silver medal in men's 55-60-kg weight category. Dharmindar Ram of Madhes Province won gold medal in men's 50-55-kg weight category while Chok Bahadur Budhathoki of Nepal Army won silver. Likewise, Anish Budhamagar of Gandaki Province won the gold medal in the 45-50-kg weight category. Sunil Tamang of the Armed Police Force won the gold medal in the 40-45-kg weight category. In the men's 35-40-kg category, Abhishek Dimdung clinched the gold medal defeating Sagar Thing of Nepal Army. Manju BK of Nepal Army won the gold medal in women's open weight category. Dhani Ranamagar of Gandaki Province won the gold medal in the 50-55-kg weight category. Nabina Dhamal of Bagmati Province secured the gold medal in women's 45-50-kg weight category. Rina Majhi of APF won the gold medal in the 40-45-kg weight category. A total of 11 teams comprising seven provinces, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army and NRNA took part in the tournaments at the Exhibition Centre in Pokhara.
