CAN announces 18-member squad for T20 International Triangular Series
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced an 18-member squad for the T20 International Triangular Series scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on October 18.
The team will be led by national cricket captain Rohit Kumar Paudel.
Other members of team are Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sompal Kami, Binod Bhandari, Kushal Malla, Gulsan Jha, Pratish GC, Karan KC, Sandip Jora, Shyam Dhakal, Lalit Narayan Rajbamshi, Bibek Yadav, Abinash Bohara, Sagar Dhakal, Surya Tamang and Lokesh Bam.
Bowler Sandeep Lamichhane has not been included in the list.
He has withdrawn his name from the list saying that he was in mental pressure and needed to spare time for the family, it has been said.
The International Triangular Series will be held in the Mulpani Cricket Stadium and the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur from October 18 to 27.
The match will be participated by three teams, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hong Kong.
Nepal will play the opening match against UAE.
ACC Men's U19 Premier Cup: Nepal thrash Bahrain by seven wickets
Nepal defeated Bahrain by seven wickets to register their second victory in a row in the ACC Men's U19 Premier Cup in Malaysia on Sunday.
Chasing a meager target of 78 runs, Dev Khanal and Arjun Kumal scored 32 runs each off 27 balls with four boundaries and one six and off 31 balls with five fours respectively to achieve comfortable victory.
Nepal reached the target in 11. 4 overs at the loss of three wickets.
In their first match, Nepal had thrashed Iran by a wide margin of 274 runs.
For Bahrain, Anas Obaid Syed took three wickets.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Bahrain scored 77 runs in 37.5 overs losing all wickets.
Muhammad Basil scored highest 34 off 77 balls with two sixes and two fours. However, other players could not score double digits for the team.
For Nepal, Dipesh Kandel claimed six wickets while Durgesh Gupta four.
Nepal will play their third match against Saudi Arabia on October 19.
Top three winners in the tournament will qualify for the ACC Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan in December.
ACC U-19 Premier Cup: Nepal thump Iran by 274 runs
Nepal crushed Iran by 274 runs in the ACC U-19 Premier Cup in Malaysia on Thursday.
Chasing the target of 354 runs, Iran were bowled out for a paltry total of 79 runs.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal made 353 runs in 40.1 overs losing all the wickets.
Captain Dev Khanal scored a century of 60 balls hitting 12 fours and four sixes. Similarly, Deepak Bohara contributed 65 runs of 59 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Likewise, Deepak Prasad Dumre made 69 runs, Dipesh Kandel 29, Akash Chand 19, Hemanta Dhami 23 and Subash Bhandari 18.
Thunderbolts Cup: GEMS claims the Champion’s Trophy
The Thunderbolts Cup that began on Sept 23 has concluded on Sunday with the host, GEMS School lifting the Champion’s Trophy with a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000 earning the highest points in 10 different athletic events and their 24 sub categories amongst an overwhelming participation of over 100 schools and 4,000 students from different regions and cities of the country.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung as the Guest of honor. Congratulating the winners and the participants he said, “Today’s youths are the future of the nation who will be representing the nation tomorrow in the international community. Therefore, such sports initiatives play an instrumental role in the holistic development of the youth, and the Government of Nepal is ever ready to support such initiatives.”
Together with the winners of the sporting events, the host, GEMS School also recognised and honored various event partners with medals, souvenirs and certificates.
On behalf of the organizing school, the Sports Director, Mr. Saurav Singh expressed his gratitude to the participating schools with a hope to see them in the next Thunderbolts Cup Event in 2024.
