Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 17
The date and organizer of Asia Cup 2023 have been finalized. Nepal have already been selected in the Asia Cup which has become indefinite due to the political dispute between India and Pakistan. Issuing a statement on Thursday, the International Cricket Council said that the Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 17. Four matches of the 16th edition of the Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan and remaining games in Sri Lanka. A total of 13 One-Day International (ODI) games will be played in the tournament where Nepal along with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will participate. The participating teams will be divided into two groups and the top two will make it to the ‘super four’. The top two teams from super four will make the journey to the finals. Nepal will play against Indian and Pakistan in the group stage. Similarly, Sri Lanka, Bagladesh and Afghanistan are in another group. Nepal were selected in the Asia Cup by defeating the UAE in the final of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup at home ground. Sri Lanka had become defending champion by defeating Pakistan in the final held in UAE.
Nepal football squad announced for SAFF Championship
Nepal have announced their final squad for the SAFF Championship to be held in Bengaluru of India from June 21. Head coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese announced a 23-member team on Thursday. Nepal will play a friendly against the Philippines on June 15. The Nepali team will head directly to India from the Philippines. Nepali squad Goalkeepers: Kiran Chemjong, Bishal Shrestha and Deep Karki Defenders: Bimal Pandey, Ananta Tamang, Devendra Tamang, Nishant Khadka, Rohit Chand and Simantha Thapa Midfielders: Pujan Uperkoti, Arik Bista, Nabin Lama, Mani Kumar Lama, Laken Limbu and Abash Lamichhane Forwards: Ayush Ghalan, Deepak Raj Singh Thakuri, Anjan Bista, Nawayug Shrestha, Manish Dangi, Ashish Chaudhary and Bimal Gharti Magar
Cycling from Chandigarh to Kathmandu
A total of 17 students (three girls) and five Teachers (three females) from Bhavan Vidyalaya School, Chandigarh India, cycled all the 1300 kms from Chandigarh to Kathmandu on their cycles. They left Chandigarh on May 27 and reached Kathmandu on June 3. They were led by Vijay Pal Singh, their Physical Fitness and Adventure teacher. Their team consisted of students from Class VI to XII. They cycled their way to Daffodil Public School at Nayapati (Sundarijal) from Thamel on June 4. They were received at the Gates by Ms. Manisha Mukhia, ECA Head and Ms. Tarala Sherpa, The School Supervisor and the captains of the school Council. An interaction program was held amongst the visiting cycling team and the teachers and the students of the Daffodil School. There was a short exchange of cultural programs and mementoes were exchanged between the schools. The Bhavan Vidyalaya School Cycling Team of teachers and students were real messengers of peace and friendship and helped further in strengthening the ties between the peoples of two countries. The students of both schools were very happy and eagerly exchanged knowledge and information and embarked on the new path of lasting friendship. This exchange program has definitely helped in understanding and mutual respect between the citizens of both India and Nepal.
Nepal to play against hosts Zimbabwe and West Indies in World Cup Qualifiers
Nepal will play against hosts Zimbabwe and West Indies in the World Cup Qualifiers. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Nepal will play against Zimbabwe on June 22. Similarly, Nepal will play against the USA on June 20 and West Indies on June 22. In the last match of the group stage, Nepal will play against the Netherlands on June 24. Prior to their group stage matches, Nepal will play two practices. Nepal will play against the UAE on June 13 and Oman on June 15. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday had announced a preliminary squad for the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe from June 18 to July 9 this year.
