Man United breathe life into season with Chelsea victory
Manchester United breathed life into their stuttering Premier League season when goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro earned them a thrilling 2-1 home victory over Chelsea on Saturday, Reuters reported.
A frantic first half got off to the worst possible start for Chelsea when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off in the fifth minute for a flying lunge at Bryan Mbeumo, up-ending the United forward when he was through on goal.
The hosts, with just one victory to their name previously this campaign, made their numerical advantage count, with Fernandes and Casemiro putting United 2-0 in front inside 37 minutes, according to Reuters.
Pulisic double steers Milan up to third in Serie A
Christian Pulisic marked his return to the AC Milan starting line-up with two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win at Udinese on Saturday that lifted the visitors to third in the Serie A standings, Reuters reported.
Milan moved on to nine points, the same as Napoli who have a match in hand, and one behind early-season leaders Juventus, as they won for a third successive game.
Pulisic had been on the bench for Milan’s last two games but, restored to the starting 11, made a major impact, breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute when Pervis Estupinan’s cross from the left was deflected towards his own goal by Udinese’s Thomas Kristensen, according to Reuters.
Brilliant Club Brugge thump Monaco in Champions League
Captain Hans Vanaken led from the front as Club Brugge recorded a 4-1 thumping of Monaco at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Thursday to underline their potential for a good run in the competition this season, Reuters reported.
Vanaken scored one goal and laid on another as the home side were superb in attack with Nicolo Tresoldi, Raphael Onyedika and 19-year-old Mamadou Diakhon also on target. Ansu Fati netted a late consolation for the visitors.
Monaco had a chance from the penalty spot with the score at 0-0 after home goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was adjudged to have brought down Mika Biereth, according to Reuters.
Late own goal rescues Leverkusen in 2-2 draw at Copenhagen
Bayer Leverkusen snatched a 2-2 draw at FC Copenhagen in their Champions League opener on Thursday, rescued by a Pantelis Hatzidiakos own goal in stoppage time, Reuters reported.
The Danish hosts got the perfect start after nine minutes when Jordan Larsson met Elias Achouri's cross to score and light up the Parken Stadium.
Leverkusen offered little in the first half, struggling to break down Copenhagen’s defence, while the home side created several chances, with only some fine goalkeeping from Mark Flekken preventing them doubling the lead, according to Reuters.
