Vijay sworn in as CM of Tamil Nadu

Film star-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has been sworn in as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu after securing support from smaller parties to cross the majority mark in the state assembly.

His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats in the recent election, ending the long dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Tamil Nadu politics.

Vijay received backing from four regional allies, taking support to 120 legislators in the 234-member assembly. The swearing-in ceremony in Chennai was attended by top politicians, film personalities, and supporters.
