Prithvi Highway is used by tens of thousands of passengers who travel every day. Hundreds of hotels, restaurants and eateries are operating along the highway.
Dozens of hotels are operating 24 hours everyday in Dhading only. Hundreds of buses and passengers stop through these eateries, however, during the monitoring, rotten vegetables were found in the store of ‘Blue Heaven Restaurant and Bar’ in Dhading. The restaurant was fined Rs 25,000 after inedible items were found during a joint monitoring by various government agencies.
This is just an example where in other highways of the country, there has been a constant suspicion about the quality of food that is served in hotels. Although businessmen claim that some improvement has been made compared to the past, it has not been sufficient. The problem has been recurring due to the lack of regular monitoring by government agencies.
Passenger Manika Upreti said that regular monitoring is necessary, stating that fresh, clean and quality food should be provided to passengers. Not only the concerned bodies, but also the District Hoteliers Association Dhading, the umbrella organization of hoteliers, has been repeatedly warning businessmen which has been ignored.
Ram Sharan Silwal, President of the Association said that there is no alternative to reform, saying that the hotel business will no longer be run in the traditional way.
According to Pokhara hotelier Man Prasad Dhital, passengers have been facing problems due to lack of attention to the quality and quantity of food and snacks in many hotels across the country. The Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industry has stated that an awareness campaign has been conducted with the participation of businessmen, government agencies and media persons. According to the president of the association, Ram Kumar Dallakoti, commitment to close the hotel if there is no improvement even after normal action.
Chudamani Puri, Chief of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhading, said that there were problems in regular monitoring due to lack of staff and busy schedule and said that efforts are ongoing.
According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 147 businesses operating across the district were monitored in the fiscal year 2025/26 where a total of Rs 165,000 fines were collected.
