The Baulyana settlement in Tanjakot Rural Municipality-1 of Humla is facing a water shortage with dry springs and traditional water supply. Now, the locals need to reach Pum River located far from the residential area and some are forced to walk uphill Khandagaun.
The situation has disturbed the students too where they take empty gallons to the school and return home only after filling them full from a source near the village in the evening, local Milan Khadka said.
Lokendra Khadka, student said he gets worried thinking of taking a gallon of water in the evening and can’t focus much on his studies.
The village has become a mess after the water source dried up, said Mohanlal Rithal, ward chairperson of Tanjakot. According to him, the problem has become more complicated as there is no other natural source that can bring water to the area.
“This year, we managed drinking water in Kandagaun by allocating Rs 300,000 from the ward, but due to the geographical reason, it was not possible to bring that water to the Boulyana settlement,” said Rithal. “We are planning to collect rainwater and have prepared to distribute 80 large drums of 1,000 liters capacity.” He said that since rainwater alone is not a long-term solution, he is demanding a long-term plan from all three levels of government.
Milan reached Singha Durbar some time ago with this serious problem of the village. He said that the ministers have assured to help and arrange the budget for it. The citizens of Baulyana settlement are now waiting for the government's response to the problem.
