Government won't protect offenders, accused: PM Oli
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has instructed the Nepal Police that takes the major responsibility for maintaining peace and security in the country to always be alert to the prevention of untoward incidents.
The Prime Minister wanted the Nepal Police to make a prognosis of offenses, investigate them and take maximum measures for the prevention.
While inaugurating a newly constructed building of the District Police Range Kathmandu at Bhadrakali of Kathmandu metropolis-11 today, the Prime Minister directed the police personnel to remain highly alert to potential forces unleashing instability and anarchy, and to deliver with the dedication to the interest of citizens.
"The incumbent government will not tell the Nepal Police not to arrest any criminals, any accused and ask for framing the innocents," he said, adding that the incumbent government was formed with the sentiments for delivering something for the cause of the nation and people.
He said that the Nepal Police is expected to serve the citizens at its best level and abide by the Constitution and law.
The Prime Minister of the coalition government said the government wishes to promote stability in the country. He also assured that no employee in the police institution has to seek undue favor from anyone else for promotion and transfer. "This government does not entertain undue approach and influence," he said, urging police personnel to deliver confidently.
The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.26 billion and the Nepal Police purchased 15 ropanis (one ropani is equivalent to 5476 sq feet) of land owned by the then Nepal Food Corporation at a cost of Rs 1.10 billion to build the advanced building for the Range that first started its service in 2012 BS from Hanumandhoka.
Police urge Interpol to search for two youths of Gorkha arrested in Tibet
Police have urged the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to find the whereabouts of two youths of Gorkha who were arrested in Tibet, autonomous region of China.
The District Police Office, Gorkha on Sunday submitted an application to Interpol urging it to trace the location of Rapke Lama and Karma Cheden Lama of Lama Gaun, Chumanubri Rural Municipality-7, Gorkha, who were nabbed by Tibet police one-and-a-half month ago.
“The way was opened for us to investigate about them after the family members of the youths filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Chekampar on Thursday,” SP Basudev Pathak said, adding, “We have submitted an application to Interpol today with the permission of Provincial Police Office Pokhara.”
SP Pathak said that the Interpol will search for them in coordination with Beijing-based Interpol.
“The duo had gone to Bhajyupa to search for Yarsagumba on April 29, but they did not return home till late night. On May 16, outgoing ward Chairman Pasang Lama got a call from Sigatse Police Office, Tibet and told him that the missing youths are under the control of Sigatse Police,” an application submitted by Karma Chetan’s wife stated.
Earlier on June 11, speaking at a Parliament meeting, Nepali Congress lawmaker Rajendra Bajagain had sought information from the government about the condition of two youths of Gorkha who were arrested in Tibet, autonomous region of China.
Bajagain said that he had got information that the Tibet police called Rapke Lama and Karma Cheden Lama of Lama Gaun, Chumanubri Rural Municipality-7, Gorkha to Tibet and took them under control one-and-a-half month ago.
Annapurna Post, the sister publication of The Annapurna Express, on June 9 had published the news about the arrest of two youths of Gorkha in Tibet.
Nepal Police arrest murderer of Bangladeshi lawmaker
Nepal Police have arrested a person, who had allegedly murdered lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar of Bangladesh, from Kathmandu.
Police identified the suspect as Siam MD Hussain (33).
A police source said that Siam was detained in Kathmandu after killing the Bangladeshi lawmaker in India.
It has been said that the Bangladeshi Embassy is taking diplomatic initiatives for the extradition of Siam.
According to a preliminary investigation of police, other people had also fled to Kathmandu after the murder. Siam had gone to Bangladesh after killing the lawmaker. After that, he came to Kathmandu.
Bangladesh ruling party lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, who came to India to receive treatment, had gone out of contact since May 3. Later, he was found dead in Kolkata.
The Bangladeshi lawmaker, who had entered India on May 12, was seen for the last time with his friends at a Bidhannagar-based house near Kolkata on May 13.
PM lauds Nepal Police for fulfilling responsibilities deftly
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that police personnel should fulfill their duty towards the state by carrying out their responsibilities in an efficient way.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of Nepal Police, Police Inspector Basic Training 1-182, here today, PM Dahal expressed his confidence that the police force is capable of and successful to face all kinds of challenges that might be encountered in the working area.
"I am confident that you will be successful in making your work performance result-oriented, negotiating the obstacles that might come in course of crime control and investigations through the skills acquired from the training. I have the confidence that you will fulfill the responsibilities of your position adeptly without being deviated in the line of duty," he said.
Prime Minister Dahal on the occasion reminded that Nepal Police is an organization established to maintain law and order in society and protect human rights, effectively controlling crime and conducting investigations guided by the main concept of the rule of law.
According to him, training institutes have an important role in producing a capable and professional police workforce that can face up to the challenges of the 21st century. Stating that newer and newer challenges are being faced along with the rapid development of science and technology, PM Dahal stressed on the need of becoming accountable to the citizens, sensitive to human rights, fair and impartial, professional and committed to the principle of the rule of law.
He emphasized that the Training Centre should be sensitive to producing skilled and capable human resources who can efficiently fulfill the responsibilities given by the state as far as possible for taking the relations between citizens and the police to a new height.
Reiterating that the police organization's effectiveness is directly affected by the capability and efficiency of the police force that have to be mobilized in large numbers for maintaining law and order, the Prime Minister said capable and adept human resources and timely and professional training are inevitable for the police organization.
He shared on the occasion that the course content of the training has to be revised in order to make it more standard and practical, adding new structures are being constructed at Panauti of Kavre for adopting modern training methods and standards.
The PM made it clear that the Government of Nepal is committed to facilitating the construction of these structures and having them constructed through diplomatic initiatives, placing national security and interest at center.
Activities against public aspirations, police organization not acceptable: Home Minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has opined that the activities against the public aspirations and organizational spirit of police will not be accepted at any cost.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of Nepal Police, Police Inspector Basic Training 1-182, today, DPM Lamichhane directed the police officials to follow the rule of law, supremacy of constitution and government's policy and program.
Minister Lamichhane drew attention to the organization's commitment to peace and security promotion, crime control and public service delivery to provide citizen-friendly services.
He argued that the newly inducted police officials should bear the responsibility of the organization to meet the public aspirations in service delivery, corruption and crime control and keep the organization intact and effective.
Inspector General of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar directed the officials to use the technology for carrying out factual and evidence-based investigations in accordance with the laws and scientific way by analyzing the collected evidence and to adhere to the international standards of human rights.
On the occasion, awards were given to police inspectors Pawan Kumar Pariyar, Sagun Khadka, Ayush Dhungana and Gokul Kumar Dhanuk for their outstanding performance in various categories during the training session.
IGP Kunwar off to France
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has left for France.
He had left for Leon, France last night to participate in the 19th Head of NCB Conference to be held there on April 23-25.
As many as 196 countries affiliated to Interpol on the control of international crime are participating in the conference.
According to the Police Headquarters, discussions will be held on contemporary incidents at the international level, crime investigation and capacity building of police personnel.
Nepal is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with representatives of India, China, Japan and Malaysia during the conference.
Additional Inspector General of Police Tek Prasad Rai, Deputy Inspector General of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal and other police officials saw off Kunwar.
