Province government dispatches aid to flood and landslide victims in Ilam

The Koshi Province Government today dispatched various relief materials for the flood and landslide-affected people in Ilam district. 

Secretary at the Koshi Province Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, Ram Prasad Acharya, said that the relief materials have been sent to the district on a Nepal Army helicopter as it was not feasible to supply the aid via road transport at present. 

The provincial government has dispatched rice, lentil, potato, cooking oil, salt, turmeric and other food items as well as blankets, pillows, mattresses and tarpaulin sheets to Ilam, said Sadananda Bhattarai, an official at the Disaster Management Section of the Ministry.

He said the relief materials have been supplied to Ilam district with priority as the district was the hardest hit due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant rainfall on October 3 and 4.

The relief assistance will be distributed to those families displaced due to the floods and landslides.

The Suryodaya Municipality, Ilam Municipality, Sandakpur Rural Municipality, Mangsebung Rural Municipality, Mai Jogmai Rural Municipality, Deumai Municipality and Phakphokthum Rural Municipality suffered loss of lives and property due to the disasters.

 

Pakistan PM expresses sorrow over loss of lives and properties due to floods, landslides in Nepal

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his sorrow over the destruction inflicted by floods and landslides in Nepal.

Today, through the social media platform X, the prime minister paid tribute to those who lost their lives in these tragic events and offered heartfelt condolences to their families.

He stated, 'In this difficult time, the Government of Pakistan and its people stand in solidarity with the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people.'

 

EC postpones by-election for Province Assembly in Manang

The Election Commission has postponed the scheduled by-election for the Province Assembly in Manang district. Manang district has only one election constituency.  

All the programs related to the by-election scheduled in Manang's Province Assembly (B) for November 3 were cancelled.

All the by-election-related activities have been postponed for the time being as per the decision taken on October 5, reads a press release issued by EC Spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

According to the EC, the election was cancelled until the next schedule after curfew implemented following the Gen-Z protest beginning from September 8 had affected implementation of election related programmes determined as per election schedule. 

Officiating Chief Election Commissioner of the EC, Ram Prasad Bhandari, as well as other Election Commissioner had on Sunday discussed with Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Anil Kumar Sinha, among others about the preparations of election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 5. 

On the occasion, the EC had briefed them about preparations for the election and its activities.

 

PM Karki expresses sorrow over loss caused by monsoon-induced disasters

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and properties in Ilam district and other areas of the country following the heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday.

Taking to her social sites last evening, the PM has expressed heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the disasters, and sympathies to the bereaved families.

The PM has shared her appreciation to all who were deployed for rescue and relief operations during the time of crisis.

"The patience and support shown by the Nepali people during the time of crisis are praiseworthy. For this, I would like to thank all from my heart," PM Karki mentioned.

PM Karki has also stated that the relief distributions are going on in the disaster-hit areas.
