RPP Chairman Lingden announces to resign as lawmaker

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has announced his resignation from the post of lawmaker on Sunday. Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives this afternoon, he announced that he resigned from the post of lawmaker. Lingden said that he decided to resign from the post after the government tried to extend the tenure of the Parliament even after the announcement of the elections’ date. Saying that the Parliament should be dissolved after the announcement of the date of the elections, he said that the RPP will not support the government in its bid to extend the tenure of the House. “I will not be here as the lawmaker from today onwards,” he said. Leader Lingden also urged the concerned authority to hold the salary and benefits has been getting since he became the lawmaker. He was of the opinion that the upcoming elections would be important for the future politics of Nepal also.    

House panel directs government to formulate law to control human trafficking

The Women and Social Committee of the Parliament has directed the government formulate a law to control human trafficking. In the meeting held today, the Committee directed the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens to formulate the national law to curb the trafficking. Likewise, the Committee also directed the government to formulate long-term and short-term policies to create a conducive environment for the people to work in the country. The House panel also directed the government to use modern information system to control human trafficking and also to review the existing punishment given to those involved in the heinous crimes.  

PM Deuba, Dahal hold meeting to discuss seat allocations for elections

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a meeting on Sunday. During the meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence, Baluwatar, matters related to the seat allocation in the House of Representatives and Province Assembly election among others were discussed, it has been said. It may be noted that the government has announced to conduct the voting for the twin elections on November 20 in a single phase. The top leaders of two major political parties met when a task force formed by the five ruling parties as per the agreement for an electoral alliance remained active for drafting a modality of the consensus.  NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula leads the taskforce. According to Govinda Pariyar, Press Chief to Prime Minister Deuba, party leaders are expected to remain busy in several rounds of talks and discussions throughout the day today in view of the elections.

Koirala, Chaudhary to contest election from same constituency

Nepali Congress former general secretary Shashank Koirala and Binod Chaudhary have chosen the same electoral constituency to be candidates for the parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for November 20. Chaudhary is a proportional representation member of the House of Representatives. Nepali Congress District Secretary Hom Raj Ranabhat said that both have applied to contest the upcoming federal election from East Nawalparasi-1. Koiral had won the election from the same constituency three times. He is preparing to contest the election from the same constituency. Ranabhat said that Chaudhary has also applied to contest the federal election from constituency 2. The district has two electoral constituencies. A total of 14 persons have applied to contest the federal election from the Nepali Congress.
