Human beings possess a natural ability to adapt and grow. People often aspire to become different from who they are today and are always eager to explore and experience new things. Such experiences make life more meaningful, beautiful, and fulfilling. Traveling is one such experience that many people deeply cherish. The greatest lesson travel teaches us is to become more flexible, patient, and open-minded while also strengthening our self-confidence.
Nepal, a country renowned for its awe-inspiring Himalayan landscapes, is equally rich in culture, geography, languages, and traditions. Because of this remarkable diversity, exploring the entirety of Nepal may not even be possible in a single lifetime.
There are many places in Nepal hidden within nature’s embrace that hold different meanings for different people. For some, these places are sacred pilgrimage sites; for others, they offer an escape from the stress and busyness of life. For many, they present opportunities, while for others, they are simply a way of life.
This time, we traveled from Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, to Tinjure-Milke, the capital of rhododendrons. Situated across the Himalayan districts of Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, and Taplejung in eastern Nepal, Tinjure–Milke and Jaljale, collectively known as the TMJ trail, are often described as the heaven of rhododendrons. Out of the 32 species of rhododendrons found in Nepal, more than 28 are found in this region. For this reason, the TMJ trail is popularly known as the capital of rhododendrons.

The journey offered us an opportunity to witness forests blanketed with blooming rhododendrons alongside pristine ponds, snowcapped mountains, and breathtaking natural beauty.
According to our plan, we boarded a night bus from Balaju to Dharan. From there, we continued our journey by electric microbus to Tute Deurali in Basantapur, Tehrathum, passing through Bhedetar, Tamore, Hile, and Sidhuwa Bazaar.
After enjoying a hearty meal of daal, bhat, and tarkari, we began our trek. Our first stop was RR Garden, a scenic destination known for its lush greenery and vibrant rhododendron flowers. Although the rhododendrons had only just started to bloom, the garden’s beauty was undeniable. Artistic rock formations, chirping birds, and vibrant greenery enriched the atmosphere.

A little farther from RR Garden stood a hill locally known as the Kailash of Tinjure, revered as the sacred abode of Lord Shiva. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva stood there. After about an hour of walking, we reached the Sano Pathibhara Temple in Dhunbesi, where we offered prayers and spent some peaceful moments.
The weather was highly unpredictable. Within a short time, we lost sight of the people walking ahead of us. Yet the route remained incredibly scenic, with rhododendron trees blooming more vibrantly along the trail.

Roughly 30 minutes later, we reached another beautiful destination, Panchpokhari. Though the pond contained little water, the view felt almost unreal. Dense rhododendron trees in full bloom surrounded the area, creating a stunning natural landscape.
As darkness began to fall, we realized that we had not even completed half of the route. Soon, rain started pouring, making the journey even more difficult and miserable. After walking for nearly three hours through rain and fog, we finally reached Laligurans Homestay in Chauki, Sankhuwasabha, at around 9 pm.
After changing out of our rain-soaked clothes, we gathered in the kitchen, had dinner, and shared stories from the first day of our journey. The hosts of the homestay were warm and welcoming, making us feel completely at home.

The next morning, the spectacular view from Chauki filled our hearts with joy and refreshed our spirits. The sight of green pastures and tall rhododendron trees in full bloom stretching across the horizon felt truly magical. We even nicknamed the place “Mini Sailung,” inspired by the famous destination located on the border of Dolakha and Ramechhap districts.
The following day, we walked for hours admiring vibrant rhododendron forests, passing through Mangalbare and Padam Pokhari before finally reaching Gufapokhari in Sankhuwasabha, our destination for the night.

After lunch, we walked towards Milke. However, dense fog accompanied us throughout the day, obscuring the beautiful views along the way. The cold weather and thick fog blanketed the surroundings, greatly reducing visibility.
Although we reached the Milke viewpoint and spent some time there, the dense fog covered the entire area, preventing us from enjoying the clear panorama. Still, we felt happy and accomplished for reaching the viewpoint despite the challenging weather.

The next day, we spent some time in Gufapokhari taking photos and videos to preserve the memories of the journey. Later, we boarded a bus coming from Taplejung to Tinjure viewpoint. The 23-kilometer ride was uncomfortable and dangerous from start to finish.
Though the hike from Tinjure Height to Tinjure Peak was strenuous and demanding, it proved worthwhile. Some trekkers on the trail even abandoned the journey midway because of the difficult terrain.

From the peak, we witnessed a mesmerizing 360-degree view of rhododendron forests that left us speechless and dreamlike. Afterwards, we walked towards the park, where numerous tranquil ponds reflected the surrounding rhododendron trees, creating an atmosphere of serenity and enchantment.
We spent the entire day immersed in the beauty of rhododendron forests before finally reaching Basantapur. Since we had already booked rooms at Tute Udhyaune Samudayik Homestay, we headed there directly for some much-needed rest.

The hospitality and kindness of the hosts made our journey even more memorable. The rooms were clean and comfortable, while the food they served was simply exceptional.
The next day, following a heartfelt farewell ceremony organized for us, we expressed our gratitude and made our way to Cholung Park in Laligurans Municipality. The park serves as a center for preserving and documenting the history and culture of the indigenous Limbu community of eastern Nepal. It also features a traditional village square, where we spent time taking photos and videos before exploring museums displaying ancient Limbu artifacts.

Later, we boarded an electric microbus and headed towards Dharan. As we had some spare time, we visited the famous Budha Subba Temple, where we offered our prayers. That same night, we boarded a bus back to Kathmandu.
Overall, the journey to Tinjure-Milke was an enriching and unforgettable experience. The dense rhododendron forests in full bloom added extraordinary beauty to the voyage, making it a memory we will cherish for years to come.
