PM Karki offers prayers at Janaki Temple
Prime Minister Sushila Karki today visited and performed worship at the famous religious site Janaki Temple in Janakpurdham.
The PM arrived here by Nepali Army helicopter this morning and performed a special worship at the famous Janaki Temple.
On that occasion, the temple's head priest, Mahant Ramtapeswar Das and his successor Mahant Ramroshan Das welcomed the Prime Minister to the temple and offered her garlands and prasad.
The temple priests recited hymns of blessings on the occasion.
After the worship, Prime Minister Karki circumambulated the temple, observed it, and gathered necessary information.
Thereafter, while having a brief conversation with journalists, she said that her visit to Janakpurdham was purely for religious purposes.
PM Karki stated that Janakpurdham is a highly important place in Nepal from a religious and cultural perspective.
She mentioned that the government is committed to the preservation and promotion of religious and historical heritages across the country, including Janakpurdham.
The Prime Minister stated that the government's goal is to develop Janakpurdham as an international religious tourism destination.
She added that the interim government is focused on good governance, development and stability according to the expectations of the people and expressed commitment to move forward in cooperation with all parties.
Before this, Minister for Home, Communication and Law of Madhesh Province Fakira Mahato along with the Chief Secretary and heads of security agencies of Madhesh Province and districts, and the Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, Prem Prasad Luintel, had welcomed the Prime Minister at the Janakpur Airport.
Gold price drops by Rs 7, 800 per tola on Friday
The price of gold has dropped by Rs 7, 800 per tola in the domestic market on Friday.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 294, 500 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 302, 300 per tola on Thursday.
Similarly, the price of silver has dropped by Rs 115 and is being traded at Rs 4, 895 per tola.
Goalkeeper Ochoa returns to Mexican squad for World Cup warm-ups
Long-serving goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa returned to the Mexico roster on Thursday, earning a call-up from coach Javier Aguirre for this month's World Cup warm-up matches against Portugal and Belgium, Reuters reported.
The 40-year-old Ochoa, who plays for Limassol in Cyprus, is hoping to appear in his sixth World Cup after featuring in five straight editions from 2006 through the most recent tournament in Qatar.
He had not been called up since May 2025, when he was named to the Gold Cup squad but did not play, according to Reuters.
Rodriguez leads Colombia squad for Croatia, France friendlies
Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo has named captain James Rodriguez in his squad for upcoming friendlies against Croatia and France after he returned to action in Major League Soccer following his departure from Mexico's Club Leon, Reuters reported.
Rodriguez, 34, joined Minnesota United following a three-month spell on the sidelines after leaving Club Leon and has been building up his fitness ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 in North America.
Forwards Luis Diaz of Bayern Munich and Luis Suarez of Sporting Lisbon were also named in the squad, both coming into camp on the back of impressive club campaigns, according to Reuters.
Man Utd boss Carrick uncertain on De Ligt's return date
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick says Matthijs de Ligt’s recovery from a back injury is progressing slower than expected and he has no idea when the Dutch defender will be able to return to action, Reuters reported.
De Ligt, 26, has been sidelined since United's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in November and there are doubts he will be fit for the World Cup, which starts on June 11 in North America.
"It's one of those things with backs that, sometimes, you think it's alright and then, all of a sudden, it's not quite right," Carrick told reporters on Thursday, according to Reuters.
Iran striker Azmoun kicked off national team for disloyalty, say reports
Sardar Azmoun, one of Iran's top soccer players, has been expelled from the national team for a perceived act of disloyalty to the government, Iranian media has reported, making it unlikely he will play any part in the World Cup, Reuters reported.
Iran's participation in the World Cup as a whole is under a cloud because of the ongoing conflict with the United States, who are co-hosting the June 11-July 19 tournament with Mexico and Canada.
If Team Melli do turn up for their opening-round group matches, they will undoubtedly be weakened by the absence of striker Azmoun, who has scored 57 goals in 91 internationals since making his debut as a teenager in 2014, according to Reuters.
FA charge Tottenham boss Tudor with misconduct over referee comments
Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Igor Tudor has been charged with misconduct for his remarks about the match official after their 2-1 Premier League defeat at Fulham earlier this month, the FA said on Thursday, Reuters reported.
"I didn't like the referee today, too much of a home team referee," Tudor told the BBC after the game on March 1.
"All the decisions were on their side. He doesn't understand football, the feeling of what is wrong and what is right."
Netanyahu says Israel 'acted alone' in attack on Iranian gas field
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel "acted alone" in attacking an Iranian gas field, as tensions mount over strikes on energy infrastructure across the region, BBC reported.
Israel hit Iran's South Pars - part of the world's largest natural gas field - and Tehran retaliated by striking an energy complex in Qatar and attacking other energy targets in the Gulf.
The attacks led to a spike in energy prices and US President Donald Trump later posted he had not known about them in advance, according to BBC.
