Administration warns action against illegal consultancies

The District Administration Office, Chitwan has directed the education consultancies and institutions facilitating foreign services to close their services within two weeks if they have not received permission for running business. 

Issuing a notice, the education consultancies and foreign employment service centers have been reminded of the rule that they must take permission from the authorized agencies and renew on time for running their services, otherwise such facilities must be closed down. 

Assistant Chief District Officer Chiranjivi Sharma issued the notice, informing that complaints were lodged that such facilities were running regularly as visa processing institutes and even falsely assuring of foreign jobs. 

He further warned of legal action to those ignoring the direction. 

 

 

Gold price increases by Rs 100 per tola on Monday

The price of gold has increased by Rs 100 per tola in the domestic market on Monday. 

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the precious yellow metal is being traded at Rs 309, 500 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 309, 400 per tola on Sunday. 

The price of silver, however, has dropped by Rs 5 and is being traded at Rs 5, 265 per tola today.

Fire near Dubai airport under control after drone attack, flights suspended

Dubai ​authorities brought under control today (16 March) a fire caused by a drone attack near the city's international airport that forced a temporary suspension of flights, though no injuries were reported, they said, Reuters reported. 

The US-Israel war against Iran has thrown global aviation into turmoil, with flights cancelled, ​rescheduled and rerouted, as most Middle East airspace stays shut over fears of ​missile and drone attacks, while the crisis sends fuel prices soaring.

Today's incident is ⁠the third at the Dubai airport, one of the world's busiest international travel hubs, ​since Iran began its attacks on Gulf nations on 28 February, with strikes Tehran has said aim ​at the US presence in the region, according to Reuters. 

Police seize illegally imported goods worth Rs 1.15 million in Rupandehi

Police have seized illegally imported goods worth Rs 1.15 million in Rupandehi on Sunday. 

DSP Krishna Kumar Chand, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Rupandehi said that the goods that were imported by avoiding customs points were seized during the security checks in different places of the district. 

 

 

Fire destroys 330 hectares of forest in Jumla

The wildfire destroyed more than 330 hectares of forest area in Jumla in the last fiscal year. 

Chief of Division Forest Office Bharat Budhthapa said that the wildfires that occurred in 29 sites in the district destroyed 330.28 hectares of forest area in Jumla.

Likewise, wildfires have occurred in six locations in the district, destroying nearly 100 hectares of forest, according to Chief of Division Forest Office Budhthapa.  

Currently, the Office is observing a weeklong program to control fires in partnership with three layers of government and the community.

The Office also organized an interaction program with the forest security coordination committee and stakeholders for effective measures to control forest fires. 

On the occasion, Assistant Chief District Officer of Jumla Min Bahadur Rawal said that the role of the community was crucial in forest conservation.

 

 

 

Rain, snowfall bring relief to Bajura farmers

The highland in Bajura district has received rain coupled with snowfall since last night. 

The upper part of the district has witnessed snowfall for the second time in the past one and a half months.

Snowfall has occurred in the highlands of Badimalika, Budhiganga, Triveni, Budhinanda, Himali, Khaptad Chhededaha, Gaumul, Swamikartik and Jagannath. 

The farmers in the villages have expressed happiness hoping for good agricultural production after the rain and snowfall. 

Chief of Agriculture Knowledge Center Jasiram Sahani said that the production of winter crops could grow after the rain and snowfall. 

 

Man Utd strengthen top-four bid, Liverpool held by Spurs

Manchester United tightened their grip on a top-four place in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over rivals Aston Villa but Liverpool dropped points in a disappointing home draw with struggling Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Reuters reported. 

Goals by Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and substitute Benjamin Sesko took third-placed United to 54 points after 30 games, three more than fourth-placed Villa who suffered a third successive league defeat.

Liverpool looked like they would move above Villa into fourth place as they led with a superb Dominik Szoboszlai free kick but Richarlison's last-minute equaliser gave 16th-placed Tottenham a deserved share of the spoils, according to Reuters. 

Egypt, Saudi move camps from Qatar and set March 27 friendly in Jeddah

Egypt will play Saudi Arabia in a friendly in Jeddah on March 27 after both sides shifted their international‑window training camps from Qatar due to travel disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East, the federations said on Sunday, Reuters reported. 

Qatar had planned to stage a wider football festival this month that would have included the 'Finalissima' between Spain and Argentina, but the event was scrapped after UEFA cancelled the match due to regional instability.

The Saudi federation said their squad would now train in Jeddah and Serbia and play an additional friendly away to Serbia in Belgrade on March 31 as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup, according to Reuters.
