RSP candidate Gurung elected from Gorkha- 1

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Sudhan Gurung has been elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Gorkha-1. 

According to Election Office Gorkha's Information Officer Rabilal Subedi, Gurung secured 29,896 votes, beating his nearest competitor Prem Kumar Khatri of Nepali Congress by 14,498 votes. Khatri secured 15,398 votes.

Similarly, Hari Raj Adhikari of Nepali Communist Party gained 11,124 votes and the CPN-UML candidate garnered 3,732. 

 

Nepse surges by 162. 93 points on Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) surged by 162. 93 points to close at 2, 827. 43 points on Monday. 

Similarly, the sensitive index dropped by 28. 11 points to close at 494. 10 points.

A total of 1,143,767-unit shares of 261 companies were traded for Rs 1. 65 billion.

Meanwhile, Corporate Development Bank Limited (CORBL) and Shiva Shree Hydropower Ltd (SSHL) were the top gainers today with their price surging by 10. 00 percent.

Similarly, Reliance Spinning Mills Limited (RSML) was the top loser as its price fell by 1. 49 points. 

At the end of the day, the total market capitalization stood at Rs 4. 83 trillion.

Vote count of 161 constituencies over, RSP top with 124 victories

The Election Commission has updated that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured victory in 124 constituencies, standing atop the vote count following the March 5 House of Representatives elections.

The vote count updated at 1 pm showed that the Nepali Congress is in the second spot with a huge margin- 17 victories, while it is trailed by CPN-UML with eight victories. The RSP, NC and UML candidates are leading in one constituency each.

The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) secured seven victories, while it was trailed by the Shram Shanskriti Party with three victories. The Rastriya Prajantantra Party (RPP) and an independent candidate won the election with one seat each.

Under the proportional representation vote count which is also going on, RSP has topped with over 4.1 million votes, while it is followed by NC with over 1.3 million votes, UML with over 1.1 million votes, NCP with over 614, 000  votes and Shram Sanskriti Party with over 300 votes.

 

15 candidates lose deposits in Kanchanpur-2

Out of 19 candidates for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections in Kanchanpur-2, 15 have lost their deposits after failing to secure minimum votes.

According to Election Officer Prkash Bahadur Bhandari, the HoR Elections Act-2074 BS mandates the confiscation of deposits of an election candidate who fails to secure 10 percent of the total valid votes. 

As per the provision, 11 candidates from various political parties and four independents have lost their deposits. 

They are Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)'s Tirtha Raj Chautaut (1,993), Janamat Party's Ramchandra Bhatta (125), Sitaram Rana (72) of Nepal Workers and Peasants' Party ( 72), Ram Bahadur Karki of Rastriya Janamorcha (195), Dharmananda Joshi (195)  of Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party (195), Khadak Tamrakar (143) of Samyukta Nagarik Party, Tej Bahadur Badawal (18)  of Miteri Party Nepal, and Lokendra Bahadur BK (143) of Nepal Communist Party(Maoist). 

Likewise, Yogendra Bahadur Saud (93) of Ujyalo Party Nepal, Premawati Rana ( 560) of Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal, Jaggu Chaudhary  (37) of Aam Janata Party, independent candidates Birendra Rana (81), Bhanubhakta Bohara ( 26), Siddharaj Joshi(19), Harish Bahadur Bhatta (44) have also lost the deposits.  

Deepak Raj Bohora of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) was elected with 33,952 votes while his nearest competitor Narayan Prasad Saud secured 10,827 followed by CPN-UML candidate Bachan Bahadur Singh with 6,418 votes. Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidate Madhav Pant got 6,337.

Out of 65,347 votes cast here, 4,230 were declared invalid, according to the Election Officer's Office. 

 

 

 

 

Shah submits total election expenses to EC

Balendra Shah, Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has submitted the details of election expenses of Rs 14,17,000 to the Election Commission. 

It has been mentioned that Rs 293,800 was spent on rental vehicles for 15 days with fuel, Rs 35,000 on five flights, Rs 28,970 on lunch during voter training programs.

Likewise, Rs 580,000 on ward-level campaign programs, Rs 49,850 on printing ballot samples, Rs 120,000 for water expense for two months at EC and Rs. 22,820 on stationery items.

Over 8.38 million PR votes counted so far

A total of 8, 382, 984 votes have been counted so far under the proportional representation of the House of Representatives election held on March 5. 

As per the latest details received from the Election Commission, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has received the highest 450, 753 votes. 

Similarly, the Nepali Congress secured 1, 361, 431 votes while the CPN-UML got 1, 151, 253 votes, the Nepali Communist Party 592,410 votes, Shram Sanskriti Party 292,063 and Rastriya Prajatantra Party 277,013 votes.

The counting of votes is underway.

 

Close to 400 dead as Israeli strikes continue in Lebanon

Israel has struck southern Lebanon and Beirut again on Sunday (March 8, 2026) and killed 12 more people, the Lebanese Health Ministry said, with the death toll rising to 394 as the war in West Asia keeps escalating, BBC reported. 

Israeli officials said the strikes targeted commanders of the Lebanese branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised “many surprises” for the next phase of the conflict.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it would “not allow Iranian terrorist elements to establish themselves in Lebanese territory.”

 

Rihanna's Beverly Hills home hit by gunfire, police say

The Beverly Hills home of pop superstar Rihanna has been hit by gunfire, police say, BBC reported. 

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at 13:15 local time (21:15 GMT) on Sunday. A suspect was located and taken into custody. 

A police official told the BBC's US partner, CBS News, that the home targeted belonged to Rihanna and that assault rifle casings were found at the scene.
