Drones target Kuwait, Riyadh
Kuwait’s military says its forces are intercepting a wave of drones that entered the country’s airspace. Authorities reported damage to some civilian facilities from falling debris in Kuwait City.
Officials said a government building was damaged in an early Sunday drone strike. The Public Institution for Social Security suspended operations at its headquarters following the attack, AP reported.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Defense said a drone targeted Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter, where the US Embassy and other missions are located. The attack was intercepted with no casualties or damage reported.
Drone strike hits Erbil airport
A drone strike targeted Erbil International Airport, killing one security personnel and injuring another, local authorities said. Loud explosions were heard and smoke was seen rising from inside the airport, wrote AP.
Sirens sounded as warplanes flew overhead. Authorities reported intercepting several drones or missiles over the facility.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to AP, the strike comes amid a wave of attacks linked to Iranian-backed militias across Iraq, including incidents near Basra International Airport.
NC;s Karki wins Solukhumbu
Nepali Congress candidate Prakash Singh Karki has been elected in Solukhumbu with 13,166 votes.
Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidate Asim Rai, has received 9,414 votes. Karki has won by a margin of 3,752 votes over his nearest competitor, Rai of the CPN.
Similarly, Nepal Communist Party UML candidate Kalpana Rai has received 8,228 votes.
RSP candidate Rishidhan Rai has received 3,642 votes, while Shram Sanskriti Party's BS Rai has received 3,363 votes.
Pemba Chhiri Sherpa of Ujjayaalo Nepal Party has received 278 votes, Lakpa Sherpa of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal has received 203 votes, Rajendra Basnet of Rastriya Prajatantra Party has received 157 votes, and Gunaraj Bhattarai of Aam Janata Party has received 41 votes.
NC's Alam wins Rautahat-2 seat
Nepali Congress Party candidate Dr. Mohammad Firdos Alam has won the election to the House of Representatives from Rautahat Constituency No. 2 with 29,528 votes.
Alam won with a margin of 11,086 votes with Kiran Kumar Sah of the Nepali Communist Party receiving 18,442 votes. Similarly, Sheikh Sagir of the RSP received 9,325 votes.
RSP's Tamang wins Udayapur-2 seat
Surya Bahadur Tamang of RSP has won in Udayapur's House of Representatives Constituency No. 2 with 14,802 votes.
Tamang won by a margin of 7,154 votes over Ambar Bahadur Rayamajhi of the UML.
According to Election Officer Lok Bahadur Katwal, Rayamajhi received 7,648 votes. Rayamajhi was an elected member of the House of Representatives in 2023.
Similarly, Ram Rai of the Nepali Congress has received 7,290 votes, Suresh Rai of the Nepali Communist Party has received 5,197 votes, and Balraj Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party has received 4,139 votes.
Out of a total of 96,122 voters, 44,634 votes have been cast in this constituency.
UML's Suhang Nembang wins Ilam-2
In Ilam’s Constituency No. 2, CPN (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang has won the House of Representatives with 22,426 votes defeating Bheshraj Acharya of NC who received 14,650 votes.
Nembang has revived his father's legacy with the win.
Similarly, Sudip Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party received 14,400 votes. Gokul Rai of the Rastriya Swatantra Party received 7,814 votes from Ilam, while Om Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Communist Party received 1,172 votes.
Out of a total of 119,489 voters, 67,664 votes were cast in this election, which is 56 percent of the total voters. The Election Office has stated that 3,883 votes were invalid out of the votes counted.
Amidst the fierce competition between new and old forces, Suhang’s victory has once again proven the strong hold of UML in Ilam. It has been analyzed that the voters of this region approved of the simplicity and development-loving image of the late Subash Nembang and the youthful zeal of Suhang. Nembang had previously been elected from the same constituency in a by-election.
When he won in the 2024 by-election by getting 27,772 votes, many called it a vote of 'sympathy'. However, in the past 16 months, Suhang has tried to create his own distinct identity. From raising the issues of Ilam's tea, agriculture and roads in parliament to remembering the district in times of disaster, voters have closely watched him.
RSP's Karki wins Morang
Ganesh Karki, the candidate of RSP has won in the House of Representatives Constituency No. 3 of Morang with 36,924 votes. Karki defeated his nearest rival Sunil Kumar Sharma of the Nepali Congress by a margin of more than 12,000 votes.
Sharma got 24,354 votes. Amir Magar of the Shram Sanskriti Party got 16,509 votes, Iran Kumar Rai of the CPN-UML got 7,752 votes and Dr. Deuman Sambahangphe of the CPN-UML got 1,259 votes.
RSP's Singh wins in Sarlahi-4
Amresh Kumar Singh of RSP has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives in Sarlahi 4 with 35,688 votes.
In the recently concluded vote counting, Singh secured 35,688 votes, while his nearest rival, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, secured 22,831 votes. In third place is UML's Amanish Kumar Yadav with 9,343 votes.
With this result, Amresh Singh has completed a hat-trick of victories. The election also marks the first defeat for Gagan Thapa.
Thapa had earlier won three consecutive elections from Kathmandu-4. He first entered Parliament as a proportional representation MP in the 2007 election.
This time, Thapa contested from Madhesh but was defeated, ending his winning streak.
