We will provide free treatment for Type 1 Diabetes: Health Minister

Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has shared that preparation has been made to provide tests and treatment of Pediatric Diabetes also known as 'Type 1 Diabetes' free of cost.  

At a program organized at Gaindakot of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) today, Health Minister Paudel opined that the ministry has been carrying out activities to provide such service in all seven provinces for free. 

Type 1 Diabetes is also increasing in the country and it was necessary to address the children by introducing a children-friendly special programme about diseases including hereditary disease, he said. 

The health Minister mentioned, "Many health-related problems are seen in children in recent periods due to the habit of using digital equipment including mobile, TV and laptop. So all should adopt precautions about possible health relate problems in children. The government should facilitate in treatment."

Minister Paudel stressed that the state should make policy in order to provide treatment to children and senior citizens free of cost, arguing that the state would not be in favour of the people if it could not help in treatment. 

Similarly, Country Director of Noora Health Foundation in Nepal, Dr Sushil Koirala, shared that diabetes is of two types and children suffering from diabetes is named 'Type 1 Diabetes'. 

Dr Koirala said in Type 1 Diabetes, the body does not produce insulin and insulin should be administered subcutaneously via syringe for life-long. 

Though there is no actual data of Type 1 Diabetes children, 600 patients of Type 1 Diabetes have been enlisted in Nepal, he added.

Five different hospitals have been providing treatment of Type 1 Diabetes in Nepal, shared Dr Koirala, pointing out the need of adopting special caution and awareness related to this disease. 

At a Diabetes Screening program organized on the occasion of 47th establishment day of Vijaya Development Resource Centre (VDRC-Nepal), Gaindakot, where Gaindakot Primary Hospital and Quest Pharmaceutical Pvt Ltd had provided technical support and Alexander Zverev (AZ) Foundation, Germany extended financial cooperation. 

On the occasion, Chairperson of the Centre, Krishna Prasad Sapkota, shared that the programme was organised to create health awareness about diabetes and draw attention of the policy people about the emerging public health issue of paediatric diabetes. 

He added that everybody needs to improve their diet and lifestyle to stay healthy as health is the greatest wealth.

 

 

Nepse surges by 0. 32 points on Sunday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 0. 32 points to close at 2,870. 95 points on Sunday.  

The sensitive index, however, dropped by 2. 46 points to close at 498. 03 points.

A total of 51,658,385-unit shares of 316 companies were traded for Rs 21. 46 billion.

Meanwhile, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (USLB) and Sanvi Energy Limited (SANVI) were the top gainers today, with their price surging by 10. 00 percent. Likewise, Samriddhi Finance Company Limited (SFCL) was the top loser as its price fell by 8. 88 percent.

At the end of the day, total market capitalization stood at Rs 1. 63 trillion.

 

Earthquake of 7.4 magnitude strikes off Russia's Kamchatka region

A tsunami warning has been issued after three earthquakes, one with a magnitude of 7.4, were recorded off the Pacific coast of Russia, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Aljazeera reported.

The epicentre of a series of earthquakes – the others measuring 6.7 and 5.0 – on Sunday was around 140km (87 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, capital of Russia’s Kamchatka region, which has a population of over 160,000 people.

According to the USGS, the three quakes occurred in the same area off the coast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky within a span of 32 minutes, according to Aljazeera. 

At least 14 dead in South Korea floods and landslides

At least 14 people have died in floods and landslides caused by days of torrential rain in South Korea, the country's disaster management office has said, BBC reported.

There are fears the death toll could rise as emergency rescue efforts continue, with 12 people reported missing.

Footage showed people wading through thick mud in the landslide-hit resort town of Gapyeong on Sunday as they made their way across a damaged bridge to evacuation shelters.

Further south, an entire village was covered with earth and debris following a landslide in the central Chungcheon region, according to video footage from Saturday, according to BBC.

PM Oli leaving for India on September 16

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is to leave for India.

According to a source at the Foreign Ministry, PM Oli is leaving for New Delhi, India on September 16.

According to a source, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended an invitation to his Nepali counterpart Oli for a two-day visit.

A source at the Foreign Ministry, however, said that the date could be changed.

The Foreign Ministry said that preparations have started for PM Oli's India visit.

It has been said that a secretary-level will be held prior to that.

 

Landslide, flood obstruct Jomsom-Korala road

The Jomsom-Korala roadway linking Upper Mustang has been completely obstructed since this morning due to a landslide and flood following incessant rainfall.

The District Police Office, Mustang said that the road has been blocked due to the flood in the Tangwekhola rivulet at Chhusang and near the Mustang Gate..

Police Inspector Bishal Adhikari, the Information Officer at the DPO Mustang, said that the road has been completely obstructed due to a mudslide near the Mustang Gate at Chhusang, Baragung-3 and the flood with mudflow at a rivulet near Tangwe. 

Around 30 metres of the road has been completely damaged, he said.

Police said efforts are on to operate traffic on the road section.

 

 

Cases of dengue infection rife in Chitwan

Dengue infection has been confirmed in 3,889 people in Chitwan in the last fiscal year 2024/25. 

According to the Public Health Office, 3,020 people, including 1,548 men and 1,472 women, were infected with dengue within Chitwan district. 

Similarly, 869 people, including 412 men and 457 women, who came from other districts, were infected with dengue.

The highest number of infections was seen in Bharatpur Municipal Corporation, where 1,171 people were confirmed infected. The lowest was in Madi Municipality with 37 infected. One person died due to dengue in the last fiscal year.

During the year, 17,353 people underwent tests for Dengue. 

Ram KC, Vector Control Inspector of the Public Health Office, said dengue infection was seen in 1,831 people in the previous fiscal year, which was confirmed by tests of 23,840 people.

Dengue fever was first traced in Nepal in 2004 in Chitwan. The infection was confirmed in a Japanese tourist who came to Chitwan that year. 

The Public Health Office has stated that the main way to prevent dengue fever is to avoid mosquito bites.

 

Very heavy rainfall likely in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki today

With monsoon winds impacting the length and breadth of the country, there is possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces as well as in the hilly regions of rest of the provinces. 

Furthermore, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at many places of hilly regions of the country including Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali Provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

As the weather remains generally cloudy throughout the country, there are also chances of light to moderate snowfall at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country.

Tonight, the weather will remain generally cloudy throughout the country. 

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible at many places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces and at a few places in the rest of the country. There are chances of very heavy rainfall at a few places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Light to moderate snowfall is likely at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country, adds the Department.
