Former PM Bhattarai bereaved of father
Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has been bereaved of his father on Thursday.
His father, Bhoj Prasad Bhattarai (97) breathed his last at the Kathmandu-based Neuro Hospital Bansbari this morning, Bhattarai's daughter Manushi Yami Bhattarai said.
"Our grandfather had entered 97 after completing 96 years. He passed away this morning," she informed, adding, his last rites will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today.
The late Bhattarai is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Police recover stolen gold worth Rs 10.04 million in Kathmandu
Gold and gold ornaments worth Rs 10.04 million stolen from the house of Rinji Lama of Boudha in Kathmandu on Tuesday have been recovered.
Police arrested Prem Chaudhary of Banke from Nagarjuna Municipality-6 last night following an encounter.
A total of 65 tola of gold was also recovered from his possession, said Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa.
According to him, the police were forced to open fire after he attacked the police with a khukuri.
The accused has been shot in the leg and is currently undergoing treatment at the Trauma Center, Bir Hospital.
A policeman was also injured in the incident.
Fog and mist to prevail in Tarai; clear weather in hills and mountains
Fog and mist will prevail in many places of the Tarai region of the country today.
Likewise, the weather will remain mainly fair in the hilly and mountainous regions, according to the 8 am bulletin by the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
Later tonight, mist will continue to occur at a few places in the Tarai region.
The weather will remain mostly clear in the hilly and mountainous regions of the country.
Meanwhile, Meteorological Analysis by the Division states that there is currently no significant weather system influencing Nepal.
Turkish airlines plane catches fire
A Turkish Airlines plane flying from Kathmandu to Istanbul reported a fire shortly after takeoff. The fire broke out in the right engine about four minutes after departure from Tribhuvan International Airport. The aircraft was carrying 225 passengers.
Airport officials said the pilot shut down the right engine and turned the plane westward. Tribhuvan Airport was closed for about 15 minutes as emergency teams were placed on alert. Fire engines and ambulances were prepared as a safety measure.
The fire was brought under control after the engine was shut down. The aircraft was diverted to Kolkata, India, using its left engine. The plane landed safely, and airport operations in Kathmandu returned to normal.
