FIFA bans former Guyana football official Alves for five years over harassment
FIFA's independent Ethics Committee has banned former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Ian Alves from all football-related activities for five years after finding he sexually harassed female staff members, Reuters reported.
FIFA also fined Alves 20,000 Swiss francs ($22,000) after determining that he had breached provisions of the FIFA Code of Ethics relating to the protection of physical and mental integrity, abuse of position and general duties.
"FIFA has a strict stance against all forms of abuse in football," the organisation said on Monday.
Chelsea slump to worst run in 33 years after Forest defeat
It is not the record that Chelsea's owners dreamt of when they bought the club four years ago - Monday's 3-1 home defeat by Nottingham Forest means the Londoners have now lost six league games in a row for the first time since 1993, Reuters reported.
It could have been worse - until Joao Pedro's spectacular overhead strike in the 93rd minute, they were on course to suffer six consecutive league defeats without scoring in any of those matches for the first time in their 121-year history.
With the former European champions plummeting down the league table, the sole comfort for their fans is likely to be that there are only three more league games until the end of the season and the club cannot be relegated.
Man City drop points in title race after shocking draw with Everton
Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes were dealt a crushing blow on Monday as they dropped precious points at Everton, relying on Jeremy Doku’s strike deep in injury time to salvage a 3-3 draw, Reuters reported.
City, with 71 points from 34 games, trail leaders Arsenal by five points but with a game in hand after a chaotic contest that saw Everton fight back after punishing a costly defensive error from City's Marc Guehi.
City now need Arsenal -- who have 76 points after 35 games -- to stumble in one of their final three games to keep their chances of lifting the trophy alive.
Vinicius double keeps Real's faint LaLiga hopes alive
Vinicius Jr struck twice in the second half as Real Madrid won 2-0 at Espanyol in LaLiga on Sunday to keep their slim title hopes alive, Reuters reported.
With four matches remaining, Barcelona lead the standings on 88 points, 11 clear of second-placed Real, whom they host at the Camp Nou next weekend in a Clasico that could confirm the Catalans as champions for a second successive season.
Vinicius broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, driving in from the left and exchanging passes with Gonzalo before cutting inside two defenders and finishing low in off the post.
